Chapter 2

The hamlet refused to use knives, so this blade was smuggled in by Chase, my longtime partner, mixed in with my "goods."

Here, even dying with dignity is a struggle.

Reflecting on this, I laughed bitterly. Just as I picked up the knife, screams erupted from outside the door.

"The boss is in trouble! Run!"

"How dare she! We'll teach her a lesson she won't forget."

...

Granger's in trouble?

The knife slipped from my hand, clattering to the floor with a thud, snapping me out of my daze.

I rushed out, following the crowd surging towards the cellar entrance.

After squeezing through, I witnessed a scene I'd never forget.

The girl called Scarlett was clutching Granger's arm, her teeth sunk deep into the hand he'd thrust into the cage.

She wouldn't let go, blood visible between her lips and teeth.

Granger's other hand gripped the cage, his face contorted in agony.

"What are you waiting for? Help me!"

"You useless idiots!"

The onlookers snapped out of their stupor, scrambling to pull Granger free.

But the more they pulled, the tighter Scarlett's grip became.

Visibly, the girl's frail arms began to tremble, her mouth starting to mumble incoherently.A pair of round almond eyes glared fiercely at Granger.

"Let... me... go."

My heart leapt into my throat.

If this standoff continued, there was only one possible outcome.

"What a shameless bitch, you dare to bite Granger's hand!"

Before I could react, I had already walked up to the iron cage.

I stared into Scarlett's venomous eyes and lifted her clothes.

As her body was suddenly exposed, Scarlett instinctively let go.

Granger fell to the ground with a thud, cradling his mangled hand and wailing.

Frost went to unlock the cage and dragged Scarlett out like a dead dog.

Three strikes landed in quick succession.

Scarlett had exhausted all her strength and could no longer speak, her cheeks burning red and blood seeping from the corner of her mouth.

"Take her away and chop her up."

Granger's casual words plunged the entire room into instant silence.

I walked up with a smile, draping my arm around Granger's shoulders, trying to keep my voice as steady as possible. "Granger, wouldn't it be too easy to just chop her up and feed her to the wild dogs..."

"I've been in this business for years. I've got ways to tame her, make her your obedient little slave."

Granger's probing gaze swept across my face, finally settling on my eyes.

"Alright then." The decision was final.
