Yan Xiu awoke to the cold bite of metal against his skin. His wrists and ankles were bound to a steel chair, and a dim, artificial glow flickered above him.
He lifted his gaze.
A vast, circular chamber stretched around him. Screens lined the walls, pulsating with endless streams of data.
"Welcome to the Data Labyrinth."
The voice was familiar.
Yan Xiu turned his head and saw Lin Xia standing nearby. Beside her was a figure clad in black, a silver mask concealing their face.
"Why?" Yan Xiu's voice was hoarse.
Lin Xia hesitated, then averted her gaze. "I'm sorry, Yan Xiu. I had no choice."
The masked figure chuckled, their voice distorted by a voice modulator.
"Let me explain," they said. "Lin Xia has been with us from the beginning. Her mission was to get close to you and uncover the secret of the Ultimate Algorithm."
A wave of dizziness washed over Yan Xiu.
"Then Night Cat…?"
"She was an unexpected complication," the masked figure admitted. "We never anticipated she would uncover the truth. But now, she is no longer a threat."
Yan Xiu clenched his fists. "What do you want?"
The figure walked to a nearby control panel. "To finish what your father started. Watch."
With a press of a button, the massive screens around them lit up.
Yan Xiu's breath caught in his throat.
Displayed before him was a real-time map of the entire city. Every street, every building—every single person was under constant surveillance.
"This is the true Data Labyrinth," the figure declared. "A quantum network that controls the entire city. And you, Yan Xiu, will help us perfect it."
Yan Xiu let out a sharp laugh. "You really think I'll help you?"
The masked figure shook their head. "You will."
Then, in a deliberate motion, they reached up and removed the silver mask.
Yan Xiu's heart stopped.
He was staring at his father's face.
"No…" His voice barely escaped his lips. "This… this is impossible…"
"Hello, my son." The man smiled. "I never truly died. That 'suicide' was a deception—to protect you. And to complete this grand vision."
Yan Xiu's mind spiraled.
Twenty years of memories crashed together like shattered glass, the fragments aligning into a terrifying truth.
"So…" He swallowed hard. "Everything was your plan? Q… the Data Labyrinth… all of it?"
"Yes."
Yan Mingyuan—his father—nodded.
"And now, it's time for you to take your rightful place."
Lin Xia stepped forward. "Yan Xiu, your father is right. The world is broken. But we have the power to fix it."
Yan Xiu looked from Lin Xia to his father. Then, unexpectedly, he laughed.
"You made one mistake."
Yan Mingyuan's expression darkened. "And what mistake is that?"
"You think you're in control." Yan Xiu's smile was razor-sharp. "But you're not."
Suddenly, the chamber's lights flickered wildly. The screens filled with cascading error messages, lines of corrupted data unraveling like a collapsing web.
"What's happening?" Yan Mingyuan spun toward the control panel, frantically typing.
Yan Xiu leaned back, triumphant.
"Remember Night Cat's quantum decoder?" he said. "I embedded it into the system the moment I got here. Right now, it's releasing a virus."
Lin Xia's face drained of color. "Stop him!"
But it was already too late.
The entire Data Labyrinth was crumbling from the inside out.
Yan Xiu had planned for this moment. His bindings had been loose for minutes. With a swift motion, he tore free.
"Goodbye, Father," he said, pressing a detonator in his hand.
A deafening explosion ripped through the chamber.
As the walls trembled and the monitors shattered, Yan Xiu sprinted toward the exit. He didn't look back.
This wasn't the end.
The real battle had just begun.
