Chapter 10: Secrets of the Rift

The night air was thick with tension as Kai and Luna sat on the rooftop of an abandoned building, the distant glow of the Black Hole Rift illuminating the city skyline. The battle was over—for now. But the questions it left behind weighed heavily on both of them.

Luna tightened her grip on her spear. "That thing—Varzon—he knew about you, Kai."

Kai exhaled, leaning back against the railing. "Yeah, I noticed. Not exactly subtle, was he?"

She turned to him, her violet eyes sharp. "What did he mean? 'You are an error'?"

Kai's jaw tensed. He had been asking himself the same thing ever since the fight.

Why did the Hellions care about him?

Why did they call him an anomaly?

And why… did it feel like they were right?

Luna wasn't letting it go. "You're hiding something, aren't you?"

Kai let out a dry chuckle. "You say that like it's a big revelation."

Luna crossed her arms. "Kai. Be serious for once."

Kai was silent for a long moment.

Then—he finally spoke.

"I wasn't supposed to be born like this."

Luna's heart skipped a beat. "What?"

Kai closed his eyes. "Everyone gets one class. One power level. That's how the world works, right?"

Luna nodded slowly. "Yes."

Kai opened his hand, and for a brief moment, a blue flicker of energy sparked in his palm—

Then, just as quickly, a dark crackling energy replaced it.

Luna's breath caught.

"You have… two abilities."

Kai nodded, his expression unreadable.

"One from this world. One from the Rift."

The Rift's Influence

Luna stared at him, trying to process what he was saying.

"That's not possible," she said. "The Rift is an unnatural force. It doesn't create… people like you."

Kai shrugged. "Yeah, well. Tell that to my existence."

Luna felt her stomach turn. If what he was saying was true…

It meant Kai wasn't just strong.

It meant he was something completely new.

Something that wasn't supposed to exist.

Luna exhaled, trying to stay calm. "Does anyone else know?"

Kai smirked, but there was a hollow edge to it. "Nah. You're the first to hear the full story."

Luna studied him carefully. She had always known Kai was different, that his carefree attitude was a front for something deeper.

But this?

This changed everything.

A Sudden Visitor

Before Luna could respond, a sudden pulse of energy filled the air.

Both she and Kai tensed, instinctively grabbing their weapons.

Then—

A figure stepped out from the shadows.

Kai's eyes narrowed. "You again."

It was the masked fighter—the same one who had saved them from Varzon.

They stood on the rooftop a few meters away, their golden sword still at their side.

Luna immediately raised her spear. "Who are you?"

The masked fighter tilted their head. "That's a complicated question."

Kai scoffed. "Try us."

The masked fighter let out a sigh. Then, they slowly reached up—

And removed their mask.

Both Kai and Luna froze.

Beneath the mask was a young woman, silver-haired, with piercing golden eyes that seemed to glow faintly in the moonlight.

She met their stares, her expression calm, but firm.

"My name is Seraphina Vale," she said.

"And I'm here because the Rift is far more dangerous than you realize."

Revelations

Kai and Luna exchanged quick glances before focusing back on Seraphina.

Luna was the first to speak. "You fought against Varzon like you knew him."

Seraphina nodded. "That's because I do."

Kai frowned. "And what, you just decided to step in and play hero?"

Seraphina folded her arms. "No. I stepped in because if you two had kept fighting, you would've died."

Kai gritted his teeth. He hated to admit it, but she was right.

Luna took a step forward. "Start explaining. Everything."

Seraphina exhaled. "Alright. But first… we need to get out of here. If Varzon was sent, that means the Hellions are planning something much bigger."

Kai rubbed the back of his head. "Great. More bad news."

Seraphina's golden eyes locked onto him.

"You haven't even heard the worst of it yet, Kai Takashi."

Kai froze.

Luna's stomach dropped. "You… know his name?"

Seraphina's gaze didn't waver.

"I know a lot more than that," she said.

"Because I know what you really are, Kai."
