The Hellion Commander was gone, but the tension remained. The sky above Sector 7 Academy still pulsed with Rift energy, as if the Black Hole itself was watching.
Kai exhaled, rubbing his temples. "Alright. That was a lot."
Seraphina—now unmasked—stood before him, her silver-white hair catching the wind, her golden eyes unreadable.
Luna was still staring at her, struggling to process everything. "So… you've been hiding your identity this whole time?"
Seraphina's expression remained calm. "It was necessary."
Kai folded his arms. "Yeah? And what else are you hiding?"
Seraphina met his gaze, her golden eyes sharp. "A lot."
Kai sighed. "Of course you are."
Luna stepped forward. "If you know what's happening, now's the time to tell us."
Seraphina hesitated.
Then, she turned her gaze toward the Black Hole Rift, still glowing ominously above them.
"It's getting worse," she murmured.
Luna frowned. "What do you mean?"
Seraphina's golden eyes darkened.
"The Rift isn't just a tear in space," she said. "It's an entity. And it's evolving."
Kai's smirk faded. "You're telling me the giant black hole in the sky has a personality now?"
Seraphina didn't react to his sarcasm. "It has a purpose. And it's starting to act on its own."
Luna felt a chill creep up her spine. "That's… not possible."
Seraphina shook her head. "It shouldn't be. But something has changed."
She turned to Kai.
"And I think it has to do with you."
Kai froze.
Luna's breath caught. "Because of his… class?"
Seraphina nodded. "Kai isn't just an SSS-Class anomaly. He's something beyond that. And the Rift knows it."
Kai ran a hand through his streaked hair, exhaling. "Okay. So let's say I buy into this whole 'chosen one' nonsense. What exactly am I supposed to do about it?"
Seraphina studied him for a long moment.
Then, she spoke.
"You have to learn how to control it."
A Dangerous Proposition
Kai blinked. "Control it? Lady, I don't even know what 'it' is."
Seraphina's golden eyes glowed faintly. "That's why I'm going to train you."
Kai stared at her. "Come again?"
Luna's jaw clenched. "Wait, what? You can't just decide something like that!"
Seraphina turned to her. "If we don't, the Rift will take him first."
Kai's smirk wavered.
He remembered the Hellion Commander's words.
"You are marked."
He had felt it. Something inside him was changing. If he didn't learn how to control it…
The Rift might control him instead.
Kai exhaled. "Alright. Let's say I agree to this little training session. What's the catch?"
Seraphina's gaze was unreadable. "You have to be willing to go beyond what normal humans can endure."
Kai grinned. "Sounds fun."
Luna glared at him. "Kai, this isn't a joke!"
Kai shrugged. "Look, if the universe wants me dead, I'd rather learn how to fight back."
Luna looked between him and Seraphina, her frustration evident. "Fine. But I'm coming too."
Kai raised an eyebrow. "Oh? Didn't take you for the hands-on type, Cherry Blossom."
Luna scoffed. "Someone has to keep you from getting yourself killed."
Seraphina nodded. "Then it's decided. We leave at dawn."
Kai smirked. "Dramatic. I like it."
Seraphina didn't smile. "You won't after you see what's coming next."
Kai's grin faltered slightly.
Yeah.
Something told him this was about to get a lot worse before it got better.
Elsewhere…
Deep within the Black Hole Rift, something shifted.
A figure watched from the darkness, their red eyes glowing faintly.
"So… he has chosen to fight."
A low chuckle echoed through the void.
"Let's see how long he lasts."
The Rift pulsed again—growing wider.
The world was running out of time.
And Kai Takashi was running out of choices.
