Donna opened her eyes. There was no up, or down; she floated in the zero-g of the personal emergency bubble. One second, she'd been onboard the mining boat Persephone, next she was surrounded in a clear sphere of nano-material, wrapped in glowing aurorae.
She twisted round, trying to orient, only to find her herself staring across the flat plane of Saturn's rings. Sunlight glinted off ice.
Stars at her back; the silent majesty of Saturn filling her infinite sky. Tears welled up, washing the view with salt-water ripples.
Nothing between her and the cold abyss staring back.
