Chapter 5 Shadows Of Fate

The air between them crackled with tension. Rene stood frozen between two forces—her past and her present, her sister and the Forgotten Ones. The weight of her memories pressed against her chest, threatening to consume her.

Kael watched her with those burning golden eyes, unreadable yet certain. "You were never meant to be their savior, Rene," he said, voice smooth as silk. "You were meant to be ours."

Nyra's grip on Rene's wrist tightened. "Don't listen to him," she pleaded. "They twisted your mind before. They'll do it again."

But the problem was—Rene remembered now.

She remembered standing beside Nyra, fighting against the very shadows that now whispered her name like an old friend. She had once sworn to protect Nocturna, to be a Keeper of the Veil.

Yet, she also remembered the truth the Council had tried to erase.

She had turned against them.

Not out of corruption. Not out of greed.

Out of betrayal.

The Council of Nocturna had feared her. They had seen her power, seen what she was capable of, and instead of trusting her, they had erased her memories, hidden her away in the human world like a problem to be forgotten.

And Kael—Kael had been the only one who told her the truth.

Her hands trembled as black energy pulsed around her fingertips. The Forgotten Ones inched closer, sensing her hesitation, sensing that their long-lost key was on the verge of returning.

"Rene." Nyra's voice was soft now. No longer desperate—just sad. "I don't know what they told you, but I know who you are. And deep down, so do you."

Rene looked between them—her sister, the last piece of a life she barely remembered, and Kael, the only one who had never lied to her.

Her heart pounded.

She had to choose.

Option 1: The Darkness Calls

Rene steps toward Kael, power surging through her veins. The Forgotten Ones were cast aside, punished for crimes they never truly committed. If Nocturna was willing to erase her, what else had they hidden? Maybe it was time to burn their lies to the ground.

Option 2: A Sister's Trust

Rene takes Nyra's hand. No matter what the Council had done, Nocturna was still her home. And she wouldn't abandon it. She would fight—not for the Council, but for the people, for Nyra, for the light that still flickered within her.

Option 3: The Third Path

Rene steps back from both of them. She wasn't Nocturna's puppet, and she wasn't Kael's weapon. She would carve her own path, forge a new balance between light and shadow—one no one could control.

The air hummed with power.

And Rene made her choice.
