New Beginnings, Old Secrets

"Looks like we got another new girl this year," Bianca announced as she settled into her seat next to Divina. "It's probably going to be another Wednesday.," Divina remarked casually. Wednesday scowled at Divina. "What's that supposed to mean?" Enid approached the table. "It means we have another transfer student coming in the middle of the school year, just like you did, weirdo." "How do you know that?" Yoko cast a curious glance at Divina. "I have no idea how." Divina replied with a shrug. "She's our new roommate because there's not enough space in the other dorms, so Principal Weems asked me, and I agreed." Enid explained. "No one wanted her in their dorm, so I said sure." "How do you know she's not mentally unstable?" Bianca pressed Enid. "I mean, they let Wednesday in, and she's a sadistic psycho," Xavier remarked, earning a sharp glare from Wednesday. "They haven't thrown Wednesday out yet because the stuff she does is acceptable, and so far no one good has died," Enid added. "So, I don't know a thing about this girl, and my new roommate may be crazy," Enid chuckled before settling back into her seat. "The new semester is already off to a great start." "Do you think she's pretty? I feel like she's pretty," Enid asked the group. Yoko smirked mischievously. "Why are you trying to hook Wednesday up so she can finally get some?" Wednesday shot Yoko a withering glare before declaring, "I'll probably have quite an interesting school year ahead," and walking away from the table. "Maybe you're just an idiot," Xavier muttered to himself, earning a playful smack from Bianca. Divina flipped Wednesday off as she strolled away. "I saw that, Divina, Wednesday teased. "How? It's like she has eyes in the back of her damn head, Yoko remarked. "Great. Another Wednesday.," Enid concluded with a sigh. Xavier suddenly interrupted the conversation. looking up from his phone "Her name is Lunette Nami." Everyone turned to look at him, their expressions a mix of confusion and curiosity. "How the hell did you manage to find her?" Yoko blurted out. "Is she pretty?" Enid chimed in. "How?" Divina questioned. "Is she crazy? I already have one crazy one; I don't need two."Enid asked.. . "He's actually telling the truth." Bianca snatched the phone from Xavier. "Lunette Nami is 16 years old, and she's from Salem, Massachusetts." She looked up from the screen and then passed the phone to Divina. "Witchestown, Divina added, her eyes fixed on the phone. '' While we don't know what she looks like, we know where she's from, and we know her name.''. --------------------------------------------------------------- '' You have a darkness inside you, Lunette, and it can't be contained.'' The words of the high priestess lingered in the air like a chilling whisper as Lunette sat in the backseat of the police car, her thoughts consumed by the darkness she harbored within. The officer glanced at her through the rearview mirror, a sympathetic expression softening her features. "You'll love it at Nevermore," the officer said, her voice gentle yet hopeful. "It's a school for outcasts and people who don't fit in." Lunette's jaw tensed, her fingers curling into tight fists as she fought against the surge of pain rippling through her body. "I'm not an outcast; I never was," she replied, her voice tinged with frustration. The officer met her gaze with understanding. "But you were outed as one because you were different. It wasn't your fault," she said, her tone gentle yet firm. Lunette's grip tightened until her knuckles turned white, a sizzling pain shooting up her arm as she struggled to contain the darkness coursing through her veins. She glanced down at her arm, where the faint glow of light danced beneath her skin, and a wave of exhaustion washed over her. "It hurts, doesn't it?" the officer asked softly, her voice filled with empathy. Lunette nodded, her gaze fixed on the darkness outside the window. "It always hurts," she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. "Why didn't you do it?" the officer pressed. Her lunette turned to meet the officer's gaze, her eyes reflecting a mixture of pain and sadness. "What's the point? If they had killed it, they would have killed me, so I would have been dead," she said, her words heavy with the weight of her reality. The car continued on its journey, the silence between them heavy with unspoken truths and unanswered questions. And as Nevermore loomed ever closer on the horizon, Lunette couldn't help but wonder what awaited her within its walls.
