Chapter 69 – Team 10's Revenge

Time flew by. A few weeks later, Lin Yuan stood on the empty training ground. The target in front of him was charred black by the flames. He wiped the sweat from his forehead with his sleeve and looked at Shikamaru not far away. Shikamaru was sitting cross - legged on the ground at this time, with his hands propping up his chin. He looked extremely calm, yet there was an unsettling silence about him.

A few days ago, the news of Asuma's death spread throughout Konoha. As Team 10's teacher, his death was a huge blow to Shikamaru, Ino and Choji. When Lin Yuan heard, he just stood there, silent.

He had thought about preventing this, but Jiuchong Ring had told him long ago that the members of the Akatsuki organization were much stronger than ordinary ninjas. With his current abilities, meddling rashly would only lead to more casualties.

Lin Yuan looked at Shikamaru, feeling a bit complicated. He walked up to him and said softly, "Shikamaru, are you... okay?"

Shikamaru looked up at him, and a barely noticeable smile tugged at the corner of his mouth. "I'm fine. Just find it a bit of a hassle."

"Shikamaru..." Lin Yuan started to speak but couldn't find the words. Finally, he just sighed softly and said, "Sorry about Asuma."

Shikamaru didn't respond. He just stood up, patted the dust off his pants, and turned to leave the training ground.

Two days later, Asuma's funeral was held. Shikamaru didn't attend. Ino and Choji stood in front of the altar, their eyes full of sorrow, while Shikamaru walked alone through the corners of the village, as if thinking about something.

As night fell, the stars dotted the sky of Konoha Village. Shikamaru stood alone in front of Asuma's grave. His face was calm, but a bit of deep pain showed.

"Shikamaru, you're here," Ino said, walking up from behind.

Soon after, Choji's figure also appeared in front of the grave. He was holding a small pack of snacks in his hand and said in a low voice, "Teacher Asuma liked to eat this the most when he was alive."

Shikamaru looked at them and said in a flat but resolute tone, "Since you're both here, it means you've made up your minds, right?"

Ino nodded slightly, her eyes firm. "We can't just let them get away with this."

Choji let out a soft sigh. His voice was weak, but there was a rare determination in it. "For the sake of the teacher, we can't back down."

The three stood quietly before the grave, each bowing their head. A night wind blew, bringing a sense of sadness.

"Teacher Asuma, don't worry," Shikamaru said in a low voice, his voice filled with deep sorrow and determination. "We'll get justice for you."

The moonlight shone on the streets of Konoha. Team 10 was ready to set out. Shikamaru stood at the front, holding a map in his hand and explaining the next action plan to Ino and Choji.

"Shikamaru, is this really going to work?" Ino asked hesitantly.

"We can only do our best," Shikamaru said, his eyes firm. "Anyway, I will never let Teacher Asuma die in vain."

Just as they were about to go, Tsunade suddenly showed up. She crossed her arms, looking cold.

"What do you think you're doing?" Tsunade's voice was filled with anger. "Going out without backup or a leader. You're going to get yourselves killed!"

"We know it's dangerous, but this is also the responsibility of Team 10!" Shikamaru said neither humbly nor arrogantly. "We can't let Teacher Asuma's sacrifice be meaningless!"

"Enough!" Tsunade frowned and scolded. "I understand how you feel, but as the Hokage, I can't let you do something with no chance of success!"

Ino gritted her teeth, ready to talk, when a familiar voice said, "Lord Hokage, let them go."

Everyone turned their heads and saw Kakashi and Lin Yuan walking slowly over, their eyes calm. Kakashi said in a steady tone, "If you're worried they don't have a leader, then I'll be the temporary captain of Team 10. Is that okay?"

Tsunade frowned at Kakashi. "Kakashi, are you going to get involved in this too?"

"Asuma was my friend. I'm also sorry about his death," Kakashi's eyes were gentle, but his tone was firm. "And Shikamaru and the others have made up their minds. If we can't stop them, it's better for me to watch over them."

Tsunade was silent for a moment. Finally, she sighed. "Fine, you're in charge, Kakashi. But remember, the mission can fail, but everyone has to return safe!"

Kakashi nodded. "Understood."

Before leaving, Shikamaru checked the map and the plan again, while Ino and Choji each checked their equipment. Lin Yuan also quietly packed his things on the side, preparing to go with them.

"Lin Yuan, you..." Ino looked at him, a bit puzzled.

"I just think that many hands make light work," Lin Yuan scratched his head a little guiltily. "And I also want to do my part."

Ino glared at him and snorted. "Do as you like, but don't slow us down."

Lin Yuan forced a chuckle. "Won't happen."

Kakashi stood at the end of the team, looking at the teenagers in front of him. He couldn't help but think of himself in the past. He sighed softly. "Let's go."

The team started out in the morning light.

=====================
