Chapter 6: A Familiar Distance

Nyxara stepped out of the operating theater, peeling off her gloves with steady hands. The weight of the intense surgery still lingered in her mind, but she had done what she could. Now, it was up to time—and him—to fight for survival.

As she walked down the hallway, she noticed a group of soldiers standing outside, their expressions tense and unreadable. They straightened when they saw her, silently acknowledging her role in saving their comrade. But her attention drifted past them, drawn to a woman standing just a few feet away.

She was striking—poised, confident, and beautiful. Her presence exuded familiarity, as though she belonged in Riven's world in a way Nyxara never could. The woman's eyes, sharp and discerning, searched Nyxara's face for something unspoken before she turned her gaze toward the closed doors of the operating room.

For a moment, Nyxara stood frozen, her heart pounding with an emotion she couldn't quite name. She had saved his life, but she was just a surgeon doing her job. Whatever place she had in Riven's life ended the moment she had stepped out of that room.

Without another word, she walked past the soldiers, leaving behind the remnants of a past she no longer had a claim to.
