Chapter 14: Unbearable Silence

Nyxara stood at the hospital rooftop once again, staring at the distant skyline, but her thoughts were miles away. Riven's transformation was like a cold, crushing weight she couldn't escape. Every time she saw him, standing alone or walking through the halls with that same distant look in his eyes, it shattered something inside her.

She had once believed that time would heal all wounds. But seeing Riven like this—so lost, so broken—she knew that wasn't true. His grief had consumed him, and there was nothing she could do to pull him out of it.

She couldn't bear to see him like this anymore. The man she had once admired, the man who had shown her strength when she needed it most, was now a shadow of himself. He had lost the person he loved, and in doing so, he had lost himself. It tore at Nyxara's heart, and each time she tried to speak to him, it felt like he was slipping further away, as though any attempt to reach him would be futile.

She closed her eyes, inhaling deeply, trying to calm the rush of emotions. The sadness, the helplessness, the longing—it all threatened to overwhelm her. But she had to keep her distance. She couldn't make his pain her own.

And yet, as the days passed, the thought remained—what could she do to help him, when even his love for her had never been enough to break through his walls?
