Scott vehemently denied it, saying it was just a coincidence and that our connection wasn't over yet.

I nearly choked on my coffee and quickly put down the cup.

That day he showed up right at my doorstep, and now he's calling it a coincidence? Who would believe that?

But I didn't call him out on it, because what happened that day wasn't something I could easily talk about.

Scott looked at me intently and said:

"I made a mistake. I deserve to feel awful and repent. Whatever you want me to do, I'll do it if it means I can be forgiven."

"Since we're supposed to be even now, can I start pursuing Irene again?"

In that instant, Evelina looked like she had swallowed a fly whole.

Before I could even voice my rejection, Evelina grabbed me and we left.

"Scott, keep dreaming."
