I returned home to find our housekeeper, Mrs. Bennett, holding her phone and looking at me with a hint of uncertainty.
"Ma'am, the master said he'd be bringing someone back later. He asked me to prepare some stomach-soothing soup in advance."
My shoe-changing motion paused for a moment.
Then, regaining my composure, I calmly told her, "It's alright. Just do as he says."
Late into the night, I sat on the couch, chatting with my lawyer.
The sound of a key turning in the lock came from the front door.
"Mrs. Bennett, go upstairs right now and get the guest room ready."
When Levi returned with Celeste, he walked straight in, giving instructions to Mrs. Bennett, who stood off to the side.
He didn't even spare me a glance.
Of course.
Now, his eyes and heart were full of nothing but Celeste beside him.
"Watch your step."
Levi carefully guided Celeste, terrified she might trip.
Celeste pouted coyly, "I'm not a fragile china doll, you know. I'm not that delicate."
Then she looked over at me sitting on the couch and smiled:
"Cassandra, you're home too."
Levi followed her gaze towards me, his eyes darkening slightly."I just need you at home, I have something to discuss with you."
I glanced at him expressionlessly,
"Go ahead, what is it?"
Levi didn't answer me, instead turning to Celeste and saying, "You go upstairs and rest first."
Then, he walked over and sat down in front of me,
"Cassandra, Celeste had a really rough time abroad, she... she developed depression. Her only wish now is to have a wedding ceremony with me."
"So?"
"I'm planning to give her a wedding."
He looked at me intently, speaking as if it was the most natural thing, "After the wedding is over, I'll settle down properly with you."
I almost laughed out of anger.
This is ridiculous.
What makes him think I would compromise for him?
"Don't bother, we can just get divorced directly."
Levi's expression darkened,
"Don't be stubborn, I won't divorce you."
I let out a cold laugh, "What, do you think you're some ancient emperor who can have multiple wives and concubines?"
Levi rubbed his temples, "I've already said, it's just to fulfill Celeste's wish, that's all."
"Levi, do you even believe what you're saying?" My face turned cold as well, "Let me make this clear, if you want to give her a wedding, that's fine, but only if you divorce me first.Levi looked at me with furrowed brows,
"I told you, don't bring up divorce again!"
With that, he turned and went upstairs.
I watched his retreating figure and softly said:
"You don't get to refuse."
A week later, Levi and Celeste's wedding took place as scheduled.
When I arrived, Levi was just placing the wedding ring on Celeste's finger.
The entire venue erupted in thunderous applause.
"Kiss! Kiss!"
The atmosphere was electric as he lifted her veil.
He lowered his head slightly and kissed the corner of her lips.
I gazed at Levi.
I watched the man who once swore he would never let me down, now holding another woman's hand, promising her a lifetime of devotion.
Despite steeling myself for this moment, my heart still ached dully.
Wiping away my tears, I dialed Levi's number.
The instant he answered, I got straight to the point: "Levi, would you agree to an uncontested divorce?"
Levi had his back to me, so I couldn't see his expression.
But I could sense his sudden agitation.
He lowered his voice,
"Cassandra, stop this nonsense."
"About the topic of divorce, I hope you won't—"
I cut him off, speaking softly:
"Levi, turn around.""I've come to congratulate you with all the reporters in the city."
