Chapter 9

Aria observed Brent with a glimmer of triumph in her eyes.

"You said before that you'd divorce Jolene after she had the baby and marry me. Now that she's dead, what about us?"

"Don't worry, I'll keep my promise to you. But Jolene died because of me, so we should at least apologize to her before anything else."

Brent gazed at her quietly, suddenly breaking into a gentle smile.

That smile sent chills down my spine, and I couldn't help but shudder.

Unfortunately, Aria, lost in her immense joy, clearly didn't notice any of this.

She wiped away the tears from the corners of her eyes and leaned in to kiss Brent like she used to, but he subtly pushed her away.

"I'm tired. In three days, I'll marry you."

Aria was a bit dissatisfied; this was the second time Brent had ignored and rejected her.

But with her goal of becoming Mrs. Myerson and climbing to the top of society nearly achieved, she didn't dwell on it too much.

Unlike our secret marriage.
