The Foundation of Power

The air in the chamber was thick with tension as Lucian closed the Book of Lost. The symbols on its pages faded, leaving only the soft glow of Veyren's presence in the dim light. Lucian could feel a strange energy buzzing in the air around him, an energy that felt both foreign and familiar at the same time.

Veyren stood before him, arms crossed, eyes locked on Lucian with a calculating gaze. "You've felt the Book's power," Veyren began, his voice steady. "But now, it's time you understand the structure behind it. Without knowing how the power system works, you'll never fully unlock the Book's potential."

Lucian nodded, eager but nervous. This was new territory, and every word Veyren spoke felt like it could hold the key to his future.

Veyren took a deep breath and began. "The power system that governs the world of the Book is built on the foundation of three core principles: Desire, Control, and Will. These principles are the pillars of your strength, and understanding them will allow you to manipulate and shape reality."

He gestured to the air around them, as if painting a picture in the void. "Desire is what you've already touched—the raw feeling of wanting something deeply. It's what first awakened the Book for you. But desire alone is not enough. Without control, your desires can become your undoing."

Lucian felt a shiver run down his spine. Control… he knew what it meant, but how could he control something as unpredictable as his own desires?

"Control," Veyren continued, "is the ability to focus your desire, to make it pure. Think of it like sharpening a blade. Your desire must be clear, unclouded by doubt or fear. Only then can you shape it into something tangible."

Lucian processed this, nodding slowly. "And what about Will?"

Veyren's eyes gleamed, a hint of approval in his gaze. "Will is the driving force behind everything. It's your determination, your unwavering resolve to see your desires come to fruition. Will is what separates the weak from the strong. Without will, neither desire nor control can take form."

Lucian felt a surge of energy deep within him. He understood now. The Book wasn't just a tool—it was a reflection of his innermost desires, tempered by his ability to control them, and driven by his will to make them real.

Veyren stepped closer, his voice softening. "But there's more. There are levels to this power system. You won't gain control over everything overnight. Each stage you reach will unlock new abilities, but you must first understand the essence of each principle."

Lucian's heart raced. He was ready. He needed this power to reshape his destiny, to take control of his future. "What are the levels?" he asked, his voice steady despite the excitement that bubbled within him.

Veyren smiled, a cold yet knowing smile. "Each principle is divided into three stages: Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced. At the Beginner stage, you can manifest small desires—things that are simple and not too far from what's already in your grasp. At the Intermediate stage, your desires become more refined. You can influence larger events, though not without difficulty. At the Advanced stage, you will wield control over reality itself, shaping the world to fit your will. But achieving this requires more than just understanding the principles. It requires constant training, discipline, and overcoming your limits."

Lucian's mind raced as he took in this new information. "How do I start?"

Veyren's gaze hardened, his voice taking on a more serious tone. "Your training starts now, Lucian. The first step is to strengthen your Desire. I will test your control and see if your will can hold strong. The path ahead will not be easy, but it will make you powerful."

Lucian nodded, his determination hardening. "I'm ready."

Veyren's eyes glinted, and for a moment, Lucian saw a flicker of approval. "Very well. Your first lesson is simple. Focus on a single desire—one thing you truly want more than anything. It can be as small or as large as you wish. Channel all of your will into that desire. If you succeed, we will move on to the next stage."

Lucian closed his eyes, pushing all distractions aside. He thought of the one thing that burned in his chest—the one thing that had always driven him forward: Vengeance. He wanted to make those who had wronged him feel the weight of his power, to bring them to their knees.

He focused, narrowing his mind until the world around him seemed to disappear. In that moment, it was just him and his desire.

"Good," Veyren's voice cut through the silence. "Now, hold that thought. Keep it steady."

Minutes stretched into what felt like hours as Lucian concentrated. His muscles tensed, his mind began to blur, and sweat beaded on his forehead. But he did not falter. His desire burned brighter with each passing second.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, Lucian felt a faint pulse of energy—small, but it was there. His desire had shifted the air around him, if only for a brief moment.

Veyren nodded in approval. "You've passed the first test. But this is only the beginning. You've tapped into your Desire. Next, we'll work on controlling it."

Lucian opened his eyes, feeling a rush of accomplishment. This was just the first step, but it was enough to ignite the fire within him. The road ahead would be long, but now he understood the first building blocks of the power system.
