Assassination? I’m Familiar With This!

For the next few days, Kanna remained unusually "steady," naturally due to that lightning incident. Not to mention, the prolonged flashes of lightning over Rhodes Island never allowed the news to be completely contained.

For some reason—perhaps a mishap—Kanna had turned into a giant magnet over these days. Unfortunately, Rhodes Island's metal content was already excessive, and Kanna occasionally forgot to control her power, causing her magnetic force to increase.

This led several operators to witness a little one wriggling on the ground like an earthworm.

Kal'tsit had originally planned to confine her in a separate room so she could better control the energy within, but Kanna was perfectly fine most of the time—until mealtime, when, regardless of circumstances, she would relentlessly march toward the dining hall.

Even though she had now charged herself with the leftover electricity—eliminating the need for that inefficient conversion—her appetite and food intake had dropped noticeably. Yet, thanks to her young dragon physiology, she could still easily devour portions that would normally require two or three fully grown men.

When Amiya suggested that someone deliver her a meal, Kanna firmly crossed her arms and declared that she didn't get enough exercise in a day. The walk from her room to the dining hall was one of her few opportunities for physical activity; staying cooped up inside all day would not only bore her but also turn her into a little chubby kid.

Besides, isn't Rhodes Island founded on humanitarian principles? How could they lock up a little one—that would severely damage their reputation.

Thanks to Kanna's crafty arguments, she eventually earned the right to dash from her room to the dining hall and then climb onto a specially designed table to eat every day.

Of course, to prevent outsiders from witnessing Kanna losing control and having her actions misinterpreted as child abuse by Rhodes Island, Kal'tsit had arranged for her to reside in a room located along a path that very few people ever used—a route that connected the dining hall and the lounge.

That morning, upon waking, Kanna discovered that she had finally mastered the leakage of electricity from her body. No longer did she inexplicably attract every kind of metal nearby. After testing herself, she confirmed that she now had full control over her lightning powers.

Filled with excitement, she dashed out to report the good news to Outcast.

But when she reached Outcast's quarters, she found that she wasn't there. She then headed to the nearby training room; although she saw members of Outcast's team there, Outcast herself was nowhere to be found.

When Kanna inquired with the team members, they explained that Kal'tsit had called Outcast over—apparently there was an upcoming mission.

Hearing this, Kanna's eyes lit up, and she set off toward the Operations Management Room, where mission assignments were handled.

At the door, she heard Kal'tsit's voice from inside, faintly mentioning words like "Colombia… Guarantee Foundation," and so on.

Colombia?

Kanna touched her "dragon horns." Over these past few days, she'd grown familiar with some people—for example, members of the A1 Squad who occasionally fed her.

From their conversations, she learned that the three from Fen were originally from Colombia, and that they had been promising reserve police officers with a chance to become full-time.

Alas, a calamity had struck, and they all contracted Originium Disease. In Terra, normal people and those with the disease live in completely different worlds.

Even though they had become infected while trying to save ordinary people, they still faced discrimination.

Fortunately, one of the three—Chloe—had previously communicated with a Rhodes Island operator. Thanks to that introduction, the trio eventually joined Rhodes Island.

From their chats, Kanna deeply felt the severe gap and rift between the infected and the non-infected.

Just as she pushed the door open, intending to slip in unnoticed, Kal'tsit and Outcast looked up.

"Ehei!"

Seeing the little one striking a cute pose at the doorway, both of their moods lightened considerably.

"Looks like, Kanna, you've finally completely mastered that tremendous energy within you?"

Kal'tsit keenly noted how different Kanna was now compared to before.

"Yup, yup! Kanna's got it under control. I came to report the good news to Outcast," Kanna exclaimed.

Upon hearing Kanna's words, Outcast smiled and scooped her up in an embrace.

"Good, good, good—Kanna, you're amazing… Later, Grandma Outcast will take you for some desserts."

"Yay!"

"Alright then! Here's the situation: We've just secretly taken in a batch of orphans. With the ability of your squad, it shouldn't be a problem."

"Grandma's going out?" After leaving, the two strolled hand in hand down the corridor.

"Yes, I won't be here for a while. Kanna, no mischief, okay?"

Outcast truly knew that Kanna was well in control—after all, with such a powerful ability, if she were mischievous, Rhodes Island would already be in chaos.

And although at first she wasn't sure how much control to exercise, after some practice Kanna no longer damaged her surroundings. Even if she often did things that made people both laugh and cry, she was just a child—having some wild, imaginative ideas was normal, as long as they didn't overly affect others.

Kanna originally wanted to ask if she could join her, but then thought that if she did, she'd most likely be refused—and it would raise alarms with both Outcast and Kal'tsit. Better to obediently wait and later sneak into Outcast's convoy.

After enjoying a lovely meal with Outcast, she bid farewell and planned to go play elsewhere.

Considering the safety within the main ship of Rhodes Island, Outcast agreed that Kanna could go play on her own.

After parting, Kanna recalled that last time she noticed the view from the observation deck atop the bridge was splendid. Unfortunately, the rain and thunder came too soon, and she couldn't enjoy it to the fullest. So she decided to go back and have another look.

Quickly, she took the elevator to the outdoor level, and, when no one was paying attention, whooshed herself up to the top of the observation deck.

This time, she sat at the deck, breathing in the slightly dry air of the wasteland and admiring a barren landscape she'd never seen before in her life.

"Although the view is indeed wonderful, seeing it once or twice is fine—but if you watch too long, you'll realize that despite its grandeur, the scene is filled with hardship and ordinariness," Scout climbed up from behind and neatly sat next to Kanna.

"Wow! Uncle, even though I was so careful, you still found me," Kanna said with an exaggerated expression.

Scout rolled his eyes. "How dare this little brat look down on me? Even a fleeting flash of purple light isn't enough—I'm the renowned sniper of Sakaz! Had I not fallen on the battlefield at Kazdair, I'd still be around."

"Hey, Kanna, I heard you're an assassin. So, what kind of assassin are you?"

"Assassins come in different types?"

"Of course! I've heard there are two kinds. One type wears heavy armor with a big shield in the left hand and a massive sword in the right—when the evening bell tolls, everyone who hears it goes straight to hell. The other type dresses in white, blends into the crowd, and wipes out the target and everyone around them, appearing and disappearing without a trace. However, I've heard that if the latter isn't well-trained, they might just dissolve in water."

"Uh! Aren't assassins supposed to be lethal with a single strike, vanish into thin air, and behead generals amidst tens of thousands? What kind of operation is it to take out everyone?"

Normally calm and composed, Scout couldn't help but quip sarcastically after hearing Kanna's description.

"Your description is outdated. Nowadays, a high-end assassin is successful only when they eliminate both the target and all of his bodyguards. After all, if everyone dies, there are no witnesses—and without witnesses, it's a perfect infiltration. Only a truly top-tier assassin can pull off a flawless 'assassination.'"

Waving her small hand confidently, Kanna acted as if no one understood assassination better than she did.
