Fiona POV

As I stood there lost in Adrian's attention, a voice dragged me back, "You can sit here."
I glanced at the girl who had spoken up for me earlier. She patted the empty seat beside her, her cheeks tinted pink as she looked at me—or rather, Jack.
Nodding, I slid into the seat, my movements smooth, controlled.
"Thank you for backing me up," I said, my voice calm, polite—detached.
She tucked a strand of auburn hair behind her ear, her brown eyes flickering between nervousness and curiosity. "It's no problem," she murmured, her voice soft.
Her gaze lingered longer than necessary.
I recognized the look immediately—the hesitant admiration, the shyness. She was drawn to the cold confidence I exuded, to the sharp edges of my disguise. It was a reaction I had seen before. A part of me almost wanted to smirk.
"My name is Julie. What's yours?" she asked, her voice barely steady.
"Jack." The name slipped from my lips effortlessly, as if it were second nature by now. I extended a hand, every movement calculated, every breath controlled.
Julie hesitated, only for a second, before shaking my hand, her smile growing. "Nice to meet you, Jack."
She had no idea who she was really talking to.
She better not fall for this looks.

Soon classes were over and I was happy to go home.
I didn't even go for lunch and I'm just exhausted.
By the time I reached my stop, night had settled over the city. The streets hummed with quiet conversations, passing cars, the occasional bark of a stray dog.
I moved swiftly, my steps light as I approached the small bungalow. There's no familiarity at all because this wasn't where I lived before. For this mission I had to live with my new fake family and I don't know about it yet.
Honestly, I just feel numb.
I knocked lightly.
"Who is there?" Felix's voice came from inside.
"It's me—Jack," I answered, my voice neutral, controlled.
A moment later, the lock clicked open, revealing Felix. His graying hair was neatly combed back, his sharp eyes softening slightly when they landed on me.
"Good evening, young boss," he greeted with a respectful nod.
I returned a small nod of my own, my expression unreadable. "Mm."
His shoulders relaxed, but his eyes—always observant—did not waver. "Are you hungry?"
There was genuine concern in his voice, but I shook my head. "No, I'm fine."
I brushed past him, setting my bag down, dismissing the worry in his gaze.
Felix sighed, his eyes heavy with something that looked dangerously close to pity.
He saw the truth—the exhaustion, the burden I carried. But there was nothing he could do.
Because I didn't need saving.
I needed to succeed.

The class went by in a flash, which made me happy. Standing up, I swung my bag over my shoulder and walked out of the classroom, not looking back even though I heard my name being called by Jace but I ignored it.
I wasn't in the mood to answer.
Exiting the school building, I saw that the car was already parked, waiting for my arrival. I nodded in satisfaction and walked toward the car.
My driver opened the door for me with a bow, which almost made me roll my eyes.
Ignoring the bow, I entered the car and sat down. Just as I was about to tell the driver to move, I caught sight of the new guy who looked suspicious.
I could feel his stare on me yet again, finding out that I noticed he moved his head quickly but my gaze didn't leave him.
I shook my head tapped on the driver's seat and then the car sped off.
