Chapter 44: The Lucky Dice

As Yor's words fell, the surroundings suddenly transformed into beams of light.

In the blink of an eye, the two of them arrived in a strange place. Suspended staircases wound upward as if they had no end, and beside the stairs were wooden shelves floating in midair. Light from above illuminated the dim space.

"You should already know that collecting 10 badges allows you to become the proxy of a station," Yor said as his small figure hopped onto a nearby flat cart.

The cart carried him up the stairs as if gravity didn't exist.

Before Zhao Kuo could respond, Yor continued, "I was once a player like you. I collected a total of 23 badges from different stations but still didn't clear the game. Disheartened, I became the proxy of Lushan Station."

"Hmph, though 'proxy' is more like a puppet."

Zhao Kuo followed behind Yor, listening to his words without any particular reaction.

Although he had vaguely guessed that Yor was a former player, hearing the truth from his mouth was still somewhat shocking.

The subway game had been played more than once, and the worlds that entered it were as numerous as the sands of the Ganges.

What was the purpose of this game?

Yor turned his head, seemingly seeing through Zhao Kuo's thoughts, and said, "If I were you, I wouldn't dwell on such thoughts. All you need to know is that the subway world is omnipotent. Even if you want to resurrect someone, it's possible—as long as you pay the price."

"Just like that girl by your side."

Yor's words made Zhao Kuo look up sharply. He cautiously asked, "You mean Tang Yingying is a reincarnator, right?"

Yor smiled, neither confirming nor denying. "Whether she is or not, why don't you ask her yourself when you go back?"

"Alright, that's enough of this topic. Now, it's time to choose your reward. It's all random, so just close your eyes and pick."

The flat cart began to ascend, and Yor stood on it as everything around them seemed to come alive, floating and swirling in the air.

Zhao Kuo frowned slightly.

The mysterious stone tablet had consumed 50% of his Luck Value, but after more than two hours of replenishment, his Luck Value had returned to 92%.

Now, Zhao Kuo's Luck Value recovered at a rate of 16 points per hour, meaning he only needed to wait another half an hour to reach 100%.

At full Luck Value, he could reliably obtain good items.

Judging by Yor's demeanor, it was clear that he wanted Zhao Kuo to claim his reward today.

According to Yor, the longer he delayed, the higher the quality and probability of obtaining good items.

But waiting just half an hour shouldn't be a problem, right?

Zhao Kuo hesitated for a moment, then spoke up, "Respected Master Yor, in my world, there's an unwritten rule that before any lottery or draw, one must meditate quietly as a kind of ritual."

Yor frowned slightly. "How long do you need?"

Zhao Kuo's heart leaped with joy. His excuse hadn't aroused Yor's suspicion.

"Just one hour," Zhao Kuo said, not mentioning half an hour to leave himself some room.

It was like how some merchants would deliberately inflate prices to give buyers room to bargain. This way, the merchant still profited, and the buyer felt they got a great deal. In a way, it was a win-win.

Yor's frown deepened. He could understand Zhao Kuo's reasoning. After all, when he was still a player, he would wash his hands before opening treasure chests to avoid bad luck.

But one hour was indeed too long.

Yor shook his head. "No, forty minutes at most."

"Thank you, Master Yor," Zhao Kuo smiled and immediately sat down on the steps, crossing his legs and entering a meditative state.

Yor was momentarily stunned but quickly realized he had been played. However, he couldn't figure out why Zhao Kuo wanted to delay. Everything was random, so delaying wouldn't make any difference.

Whatever, he had already spoken, and it wasn't good to go back on his word. It was just forty minutes, after all.

A faint screen appeared in front of Yor, and he seemed to be controlling something.

Time passed minute by minute. Zhao Kuo watched his slowly increasing Luck Value, his patience unwavering.

Finally, after about half an hour, Zhao Kuo's Luck Value reached 100%. He slowly stood up and bowed to Yor.

"Master Yor, I'm ready."

Yor also stopped what he was doing and nodded. "Since you're ready, let's begin."

As he spoke, the surrounding objects turned into points of light, quickly flying toward Zhao Kuo and forming rings of light around him.

Yor said, "Just reach in and grab something. It's all random."

Hearing Yor's reminder, Zhao Kuo smiled.

Random? There was no such thing as random for him.

With his Luck Value activated, Zhao Kuo slowly reached into the ring of light beside him. It felt like dipping his hand into flowing water, but softer and more magical.

At that moment, Zhao Kuo felt a sudden clarity. His hand quickly grasped, and a beam of light was tightly held in his palm.

Is light a particle or a wave? Zhao Kuo didn't know, but he knew he had grabbed something good.

As he slowly opened his hand, a thirteen-sided dice appeared in his palm.

Yor looked at the dice, his mouth twitching slightly. How did this guy end up with this thing?

Yor had mixed feelings about this dice. On one hand, it was of an extremely rare grade, but on the other hand, its effect was somewhat underwhelming. He had used it once before and almost got himself into trouble.

**[Lucky Dice]**

**[Extremely Rare Item. It has 13 sides, ranging from -6 to 6, with 0 in the middle. Each roll will produce a number and trigger a random event. The higher the number, the luckier the event; the lower the number, the more unfortunate the event. Rolling a 0 will result in nothing happening.]**

**[Currently usable once per day.]**

Looking at the dice's attributes, Zhao Kuo suppressed the intense joy in his heart.

Although he didn't know what rolling a 6 would bring, this dice was practically tailor-made for him, with his Luck Value system. It was one of a kind!

The only downside was that it could only be used once a day, which was a bit stingy.

But the greater the restrictions, the more powerful the dice's function. He could try it out when his Luck Value was full.

Now, his Luck Value was somewhat insufficient. He wondered if there would be any changes in the future.

"Now that you've got your item, our business is settled. I have other matters to attend to, so you can go back," Yor said, waving his hand.

The surroundings once again transformed into strange beams of light.

When Zhao Kuo opened his eyes, he found himself back on the subway.

Not far away, Tang Yingying was crouched in a corner, her head buried in her knees, looking utterly dejected.
