The morning air inside the facility was as sterile as ever, but there was a tension in the air—something different from their usual training routines. Team 12 had adjusted quickly to their new roles, but today, something felt… bigger.
Elias led Team 12 into his personal laboratory, the one only he could access. The moment the reinforced doors hissed open, Bao and the others knew something was different.
They had been inside this lab before, but this was different.
Blueprints were holographically projected across the walls, equations and schematics floating mid-air. Half-assembled machinery was arranged on multiple tables, but what caught their attention was the centerpiece.
At the center of the lab, mounted on a specialized testing platform, was a weapon.
It was massive, sleek, and more advanced than anything they had ever seen before.
Vivian's eyes widened as she instinctively took a step forward. "That's a—"
"A functioning electromagnetic railgun," Elias finished for her, his voice smooth but carrying an undeniable weight.
The room fell silent.
They had heard rumors, whispered theories about a Superweapon he was Working on, but everyone—including high-ranking officers—had believed that railgun technology was still purely theoretical, at best an experimental concept with no field applications except on ships in way bigger proportions.
But this?
Desmond let out a low whistle. "You actually made it."
Elias smirked. "I did more than build it. I created it from scratch."
Bao stepped forward, carefully running his hand along the matte black casing, fiddled around with the extandable legs and played with the scope. "What's the specs?"
Elias turned, pulling up the holographic interface and displaying the weapon's full breakdown. "The Type-1 Railgun Prototype—first of its kind. Capable of accelerating a 6mm tungsten round to over Mach 5 within a single shot. No gunpowder, no traditional propellant—just pure electromagnetic force."
Jiro narrowed his eyes. "Power source?"
"Classified" Elias responded, crossing his arms smiling smucly. "But it Allows for rapid charge and discharge cycles without overheating. It won't fire like a conventional rifle—it needs time between shots to recharge, but in exchange, you get pinpoint accuracy through nearly no bulletdrop around a Kilometer, the recoil is absorbed and redirected by the weapon's internal systems, making it manageable even for a single operator and it has enough kinetic force to punch through an entire armored convoy."
Aiden let out a slow exhale. "Jesus."
Vivian, who had remained silent so far, glanced at Elias. "And we're using this today?"
Elias nodded. "Two of you will."
The team looked at each other.
Bao's gaze darkened. "You're trusting us to be the first ones to field-test it?"
Elias smirked. "There's no one I would rather trust."
A private firing range was set up inside the lower levels of the facility, where highly classified weapons were tested away from even the elite operatives.
Two Type-1 Railguns had been prepped for live-fire testing by Elias himself.
Desmond and Vivian were the first to step forward, lifting the weapons carefully.
They were heavy, a little more than standard rifles, but the balance was perfect. Unlike traditional firearms, the railgun lacked any magazine or ejection port—it was a smooth, seamless weapon with a single loading chamber.
Elias stood behind a reinforced glass panel, watching carefully.
"Charge sequence activates when the safty is of," he announced. "It'll take five seconds charg up time before the trigger is live, then when your ready to fire, aim and shoot."
Vivian took the first shot.
A deep, electromagnetic hum filled the room, a brief but powerful charge building within the weapon while she was loading it with the projectile. The air crackled around the gun as the trigger went live .
Then—
BOOM.
A tungsten round left the railgun at hypersonic speeds, leaving behind a trail of plasmarised air. The moment it struck the reinforced steel target 400 meters away, it didn't just penetrate—it vaporized a massive chunk of the metal, leaving a hole clean through it.
Silence.
Desmond adjusted his grip on his already charged weapon, then simply muttered, "My turn."
BOOM.
Another round fired, this time hitting the second target—a vehicle hull prototype designed to withstand high-impact explosives. It was torn in half instantly.
Bao let out a slow breath. "This isn't a rifle. It's a weapon of massdestruction."
Jiro turned to Elias. "And you're handing it to us?"
Elias smiled. "Not just like that. High Command wants a real-world test."
With the test complete, only two members of Team 12 would be taking the railguns into an actual combat scenario. The mission was classified, but Elias had been given full command over the operation, meaning Team 12 would be leading the field team, not just participating in it.
Inside the mission briefing room, the tension was palpable.
Selene stood at the front, arms crossed, as the platoon leaders and officers awaited instructions.
On one side of the room, Bao and Desmond stood, knowing they were the two being sent out. The others would stay behind to continue guarding Elias.
Selene didn't waste time. She pulled up the holographic mission report, displaying a satellite feed of their objective.
"A forward blacksite facility has gone dark, presumed compromised. High Command needs an immediate intervention and Dr. Varis has personally authorized the use of the railguns in this mission."
The platoon leader, a seasoned officer named Lieutenant Graham, frowned slightly. "With all due respect, we don't even have proper field protocols for those weapons yet."
Elias spoke this time. "You will now."
Everyone turned to him.
He continued, voice calm but commanding. "Desmond and Bao will carry the only two railguns on the Mission. You guys are to secure the site and neutralize any hostiles, you two will just give you fire support from far away and take out the heavy targets. This is a direct strike mission. No prisoners. No salvage. Full containment."
Graham nodded slowly, but his hesitation was still evident. "And what if the enemy is expecting us?"
Selene smirked. "Then we find out how good these weapons really are."
By nightfall, the operation was already in motion.
Bao and Desmond stood at the front of the transport bay, fully equipped in modified combat armor, each of them carrying a railgun strapped to their backs and a Metal-briefcase full of its rounds.
The platoon, over twenty elite soldiers, was assembling behind them, loading into armored personnel carriers and tactical insertion aircraft.
Elias watched from the upper deck as the final checks were completed.
Selene stood beside him, arms folded. "You sure you want to do this now? They're not fully trained on those things yet."
"They don't need to be," Elias replied. "We need the raw data of the Weapons anyway."
Down below, Bao turned back one last time, locking eyes with Elias.
No words were needed.
Elias gave him a single nod.
Bao returned it, then boarded the transport.
The massive aircraft roared to life, and within moments, they were airborne, off to the first real battlefield test of the railgun.
