The Aftermath

Elias sat in the dimly lit conference room, the air thick with an unspoken tension. Across the long table, high-ranking military officials and government strategists observed him with expressions as unreadable as ever.

The mission had been a success—far beyond what they had expected. The railgun prototype had turned the battlefield into an execution ground, decimating armored units, fortified positions, and any unfortunate enemy caught in its line of fire. The mission logs and combat footage left no room for doubt.

Yet, despite the undeniable effectiveness of his weapon, High Command was not celebrating. They were wary.

Elias leaned back in his chair, feigning nonchalance while he read the room. They weren't just impressed. They were terrified.

The oldest general in the room, a man who had survived more wars than Elias had years of formal education, finally broke the silence. His voice was measured, but Elias could detect the underlying restraint.

"This technology is beyond what we anticipated," he admitted. "The railgun alone is a strategic nightmare for any enemy force. If this leaks, if even a whisper of its existence reaches the wrong hands…"

Another official, a woman dressed in a black uniform that bore no insignia, picked up where he left off. "It could destabilize the global power balance overnight."

Elias allowed himself a small smirk. "So what's the next step?"

A younger officer, one who had clearly not yet learned how to mask his emotions, cleared his throat and spoke hesitantly. "The brass wants two things from you, Dr. Varis. First—" he pulled up a classified report on the holographic display "—we need to scale this technology as far as it can go. That means testing the absolute upper limits of both the railgun and the booster propulsion systems."

Elias nodded. That much was expected. They wanted to see just how far his inventions could be pushed before physics told him 'no.'

"And the second?"

The woman in black exhaled. "We need a countermeasure."

Elias raised an eyebrow. "A countermeasure?"

"Yes," the older general confirmed. "Your technology is effective, but if someone else develops something similar—"

"They will," Elias interrupted smoothly. "Eventually, they will."

"Exactly," the general agreed. "And when that happens, we need a way to shut it down. something to defend it, walls are not viable anymore it seems."

Elias tilted his head, considering. A counter… that was interesting. He could see why they would want one, but he also knew it was something they didn't want him to work on immediately. If his creations were ever used against them, they needed a failsafe.

"Low priority," the woman clarified. "The first directive is to expand production and scalability. The failsafe comes later."

Elias let out a breath, his mind already racing through potential solutions. "Fine. Anything else?"

A folder was slid across the table toward him. It was thick, filled with classified documents and detailed specifications.

"These are the schematics for our existing stealth jets," the general said. "Effective immediately, you are authorized to develop a next-generation model—something that incorporates your propulsion advancements. If you can make a fighter as effective as your weaponry, we'll fund it. No questions asked."

Elias opened the folder and skimmed through the details. These were good designs. Not great. Outdated by his standards, but with the right adjustments…

He smirked. "I'll make something better."

The general gave a curt nod. "You'll have everything you need."

Another file was pushed toward him. This one wasn't about technology. It was about personnel.

"You requested the ability to recruit your own team?" the woman asked.

Elias nodded. "I need people I can trust. People who can handle the kind of research I'm doing."

The general studied him. "You already have names in mind."

"I do," Elias confirmed. "I know exactly who to bring in."

Of course, he did. He knew the future. He knew which minds would go on to revolutionize military science. And now, he would recruit them before anyone else.

The general leaned back, considering. "Then choose wisely, Dr. Varis. Because from this point forward, your work is no longer just an advantage for our nation."

Elias locked eyes with him.

"It's a necessity."

The meeting was adjourned.

As Elias stepped out of the conference room, Selene and Team 12 were waiting for him in the hallway, arms crossed, Selenes emerald eyes twinkling with amusement.

"Well?" she asked.

Elias exhaled, his mind already calculating a thousand possibilities. "We just got a blank check."

Selene smirked. "Then I hope you spend it well, Doctor."

Elias glanced down at the folders in his hands, the future of warfare sitting in classified documents.

"Oh," he murmured. "I intend to."

The quiet hum of the command facility surrounded Elias as he sat in his private office, the holographic schematics of the stealth interceptor and the railgun upscale project flickering in the dim lighting. The aftermath of the last meeting still echoed in his mind—High Command's reaction, their veiled fear, and their overwhelming approval. Now, as he processed the new directives, the weight of his accelerated rise through the military hierarchy settled on him.

The reality was clear. They had entrusted him with something that could reshape warfare forever.

And they expected results.

A New Order of Power

High Command's message was simple yet monumental:

Elias was to scale the technology to its absolute limits, testing larger calibers, enhanced projectile velocity, and enhancing the power source. A jet unlike anything the world had ever seen, one that incorporated his propulsion and railgun technology.

In the end they weren't naive. If they could develop railguns, so could others. A way to neutralize his own technologys Attacks before it was even reaslised by the enemys.

At last Elias was now allowed to form his own research team, bypassing traditional bureaucracy. He had full control over who joined his ranks.

The first three were expected, but the fourth? That was the one that truly solidified his position. High Command had essentially told him: You decide who advances military technology from now on.

A smirk played on his lips. Perfect.

Selene entered his office, glancing at the various schematics before her emerald eyes settled on Elias. She folded her arms, tilting her head.

"So, Commander Varis, how does it feel to be the single most valuable asset in this country?"

Elias leaned back, his fingers steepled. "I was already the most valuable asset."

Selene chuckled. "Fair. But now, they've actually acknowledged it." She stepped closer, resting a hand on his desk. "So, what's next?"

Elias tapped a screen, and three profiles appeared before them.

Dr. Aria Chen: Materials Science Prodigy. She specialized in high-density capacitors and metamaterials. Her unpublished research would be the key to miniaturizing power storage for both the railgun and the stealth interceptor even more.

Commander Julian Cross – Test Pilot & Aerospace Engineer. A dual-role specialist. He could help design the fighter and then push it to its limits in the air.

Professor Nia Kapoor – Theoretical Physicist. A specialist in electromagnetic propulsion and field manipulation. If anyone could optimize his launcher system and have ideas for shielding, it was her.

Selene whistled lowly. "You've been scouting, haven't you?"

Elias smiled. "You could say that."

She studied the profiles for a moment. "How soon do you want them here?"

"Yesterday," Elias replied flatly. "I'll be reaching out to Julian personally. You handle Aria and Kapoor. Give them the details they need, but no more than necessary. We're operating under full clearance. If they accept, High Command will handle the formalities."

Selene grinned. "Oh, I love this. Absolute power suits you, Doctor."

Elias exhaled. "Enjoy it while it lasts."

Later that evening, Team 12 gathered in Elias office, waiting for Elias to give them the briefing on their future progression. The tension was evident—not from fear, but anticipation.

Bao, ever the sharp one, leaned against the wall, arms crossed. "I assume whatever they gave you in that folder was bigger than just 'good job.'"

Elias placed the dossier on the table. "We're going to build something that will keep us ahead of the world for the next twenty years."

He tapped a button, and the holographic schematics of the next-generation stealth interceptor flickered into view.

Jiro let out a low whistle. "That's…"

"A monster," Aiden finished, his eyes widening.

Desmond shook his head. "Let me guess. You're strapping one of your cannons onto it?"

Elias smirked. "You bet."

Vivian leaned forward, studying the details. "And this is actually possible?"

Elias nodded. "It will be. I'm bringing in the best minds to make sure of it."

Bao's expression darkened slightly. "And what happens when the rest of the world finds out?"

Silence.

Elias met his gaze. "Then we make sure they're always a step behind."

The unspoken truth lingered. The railgun was already a game-changer. A stealth railgun interceptor? That wasn't just a step ahead—it was a paradigm shift.

They had just made themselves the most dangerous force on the planet.

And they weren't even close to done.

The Challenge Ahead

Elias pulled up the next section of the dossier. "The second part of our mission: upscaling the railgun."

A series of larger models appeared—turret-mounted railguns, naval versions, even theoretical orbital-based applications as Planet defence.

Jiro exhaled. "Okay, now you're just showing off."

Elias smirked. "No, now we're preparing for what comes next."

They all exchanged glances. None of them doubted him. He had seen the future. He knew what was coming.

And now, he was building the only force capable of stopping it.
