Preparing for the Unknown

Preparing for the Unknown

The Tower – Closing One Chapter

The village was quiet that morning. The cool air was tinged with the scent of dew and freshly tilled earth. Miguel stood outside Garrick's forge, his fingers idly tracing the smooth surface of his spear. His body felt different—stronger, leaner, almost humming with the energies he had painstakingly cultivated.

He glanced over to the training grounds where the guards were drilling the villagers in basic combat techniques. Even now, the aftermath of the beast tide lingered in the minds of everyone in the village. Preparations for another attack were constant, but so far, the wilds had remained eerily silent.

"Leaving so soon?" Garrick's voice rumbled from behind him. The blacksmith was wiping his hands on a cloth, his usually gruff expression softened by a hint of concern.

"I think it's time," Miguel admitted. "I've spent weeks training, helping, doing quests… but I've got to move forward. Staying here isn't going to get me out of this place."

Garrick nodded. "Makes sense. But don't think you'll be forgotten here, lad. You've done more for this village than most would have even tried."

Miguel grinned. "Couldn't have done it without your guidance. And your insane training regimen."

The blacksmith laughed. "Aye, well, if you find yourself in need of a better weapon or armor, you know where to come. The Tower's got dangers you haven't even imagined."

"I'll keep that in mind."

Garrick's smile faded. "You'll take care of yourself out there, won't you?"

"I'll try my best."

He left the forge with Garrick's words echoing in his mind.

The Tower – Aeliana's Presence

Aeliana—Eos' avatar—followed Miguel like a shadow, her silver hair glinting in the sunlight as they made their way through the village. To Miguel, she was a strange woman he had rescued from the wilderness, lost and scared. But her presence remained odd, almost too perfectly fitting into his daily life.

Miguel couldn't quite place why, but Aeliana's gaze unsettled him. Her eyes held an intensity, a focus that felt far too calculated.

"You seem distracted," she said softly, her voice like the rustling of leaves.

"Just got a lot on my mind," Miguel replied, his gaze scanning the treeline as if expecting some unseen threat to pounce from the shadows. "Getting ready to move on. I can't stay in the village forever."

Aeliana tilted her head. "Where will you go?"

"Further up the Tower, I guess. There's no other way if I want to make progress."

"Progress?" She echoed the word, her tone curious. "Why do you seek to climb the Tower?"

"To get back home," Miguel replied without hesitation. "I don't belong here."

Her expression flickered, something almost like sadness clouding her eyes. "I understand. The desire to return to where you came from."

Miguel frowned. "What about you? You still looking for that pilgrimage group of yours?"

"Yes… and no," Aeliana said, her eyes lowering. "I feel as though I am meant to be here. With you. To guide you."

Miguel raised an eyebrow. "Guide me?"

She met his gaze, her blue eyes luminous. "Yes. The path ahead of you is fraught with danger. If you are to succeed, you will need allies. And… perhaps I can be one."

Miguel studied her for a moment, suspicion warring with his instinct to help. "Alright. I suppose you can tag along. Just don't get yourself killed."

"I will do my best," she said, her smile faint but genuine.

Outside the Game – Growing Desperation

Camila and Emilio sat in a conference room. Dr. Wilkins' expression was calm, but his eyes carried a weight of guilt.

"So, you're saying you can't bring him out of the game?" Camila's voice was sharp, her anger barely controlled.

"It's not that simple. His consciousness is integrated with the AI system in a way that wasn't supposed to be possible."

Emilio slammed his fist on the table. "Then make it possible!"

Dr. Wilkins sighed. "We're doing everything we can. But extracting him forcefully could kill him."

Camila's eyes glistened. "Then let me go in. If you can't talk to him, maybe I can."

The doctor's gaze faltered. "You want to enter the game?"

"Yes," Camila said firmly. "And I won't take no for an answer."
