Skyler lowered her head, not letting anyone see her expression. She just picked up the wasted food from the ground bit by bit.
As she gathered the food, she spoke in the softest, gentlest voice.
"Mr. Lee is right. I’ve always been a dirty person. Doesn’t Mr. Lee already know that? Since that’s the case, why get angry over something like this?"
"You haven’t had dinner yet, have you? Since all this food is wasted, why don’t I cook you a bowl of noodles?"
Her soft voice and lowered eyes made her look like the perfect person who lived to please her wealthy benefactor.
Logan’s dark pupils narrowed coldly. Complex and dangerous emotions flashed through his eyes before disappearing.
It was as if her sudden humble attitude had irritated him.
Without looking at her, he coldly said, "I don’t need it," then went upstairs with a chilling presence.
After Logan left, Skyler remained motionless for a long time.
After a while, she slowly moved again as if nothing had happened.
Her slender fingers picked up the squashed takeout box from the floor.
Using both hands, she carefully placed all the food that was still edible back into the box.
Once she finished cleaning the mess, Skyler sat back at the dining table.
She took a pair of chopsticks, opened the box, and tasted each dish one by one.
The food was very expensive.
She had used up all her meager savings to buy it, gritting her teeth the whole time.
These exquisite dishes were the kind of food she had only dreamed of eating for the past year.
Even if she had wanted to eat them before, she never had the heart to buy them.
But Logan had knocked them over without a second thought.
As Skyler ate, she silently swallowed the bitterness in her throat.
Until she could no longer bear the suffocating sense of injustice in her chest.
Her thin shoulders shook violently.
Finally, biting her lip, she cried silently.
It was so hard...
She was really struggling so much...
But even if it was difficult, she had to keep going.
Because her mother was still in the hospital, and without that one million dollars, she couldn’t save her...
No matter what, she had to keep going...
After a brief breakdown, Skyler quickly pulled herself together.
She didn’t have the right to cry or feel sad. Crying would only waste time.
After finishing her meal, wiping her tears, and washing her face with cold water, Skyler hugged her laptop and went into her room.
The design she worked on at the studio yesterday wasn’t good enough. She had to make revisions based on the client’s feedback before work tomorrow.
That night, Skyler worked until 3 a.m. before finally falling asleep.
---
The next morning.
When Skyler got up to make breakfast, Logan was already gone.
Obviously, he hated her so much that he didn’t even want to have breakfast with her.
That was fine.
It saved her the trouble of making his portion.
Skyler returned to the studio and received a message from Sophia.
A major overseas client suddenly requested to inspect the goods. Since it was urgent, Sophia took a few skilled workers and went ahead, leaving Skyler in charge of the studio for now.
With no one to disturb her, Skyler rolled up her sleeves and focused on drawing sketches.
She was so busy that she didn’t even have time for lunch.
Then, at noon, her phone rang.
An unfamiliar number appeared on the screen.
"Hello, who is this?"
"It’s me."
Logan’s cold, deep voice came through the phone.
Skyler held her breath.
She didn’t expect Logan to call her.
She didn’t even know when he got her number.
"Mr. Lee, you—"
"Come to the nursing home to see my grandfather right now. My car is parked at the entrance. You have thirty minutes."
"But Mr. Lee, I’m still at work..."
"At work? You should come up with a better excuse next time."
His cold voice carried a hint of sarcasm, still refusing to believe that she had a real job.
"You have twenty-nine and a half minutes left. Don’t make me wait too long. Skyler, you should know the consequences of being late," Logan said coldly before hanging up.
Skyler stared at the disconnected call, took a deep breath, and hurried to the nursing home.
As soon as she arrived at the entrance, a black Bentley slowly pulled up in front of her.
The dark window rolled down.
"Get in."
Logan’s sharp, cold face appeared in the back seat, his tone commanding.
Skyler gritted her teeth and got into the car.
The moment she sat down, a brand-new set of luxury women’s clothing was tossed onto her lap.
"Change into this."
Logan’s voice was icy, and his sidelong glance was sharp enough to pierce through her.
This woman took a million dollars from him, yet she dressed so terribly.
Looking at Skyler’s washed-out clothes, Logan’s frown deepened.
Skyler picked up the clothing, looking a little hesitant. "Are you asking me to... change now... here?"
"Otherwise? This isn’t a mall, there’s no fitting room, and no shopping guide to help you change."
"..." Skyler bit her lip.
She didn’t mean it like that.
As if seeing through her worries, Logan’s thin lips curled into an even more mocking smirk.
