Chapter 18

Chapter 18

After their dizzying escape from Draycen, the Dhampir leader, Maya and Thalaya channeled an outburst of telekinetic energy to propel the scientist's spaceship. The move was desperate but precise, and they arrived just in time to slip into the assembly hall unnoticed. The room was filled with teachers and students, all turning to stare at their group in curiosity. Clad in their space suits, they clearly didn't belong.

Elara, quick to act, pressed a button on her wrist console. Instantly, her space suit transformed into her standard school uniform, the advanced technology seamlessly adapting her appearance. Thalaya, being a teacher, was now dressed in her professional attire. Maya observed the transformation and couldn't help but reflect on her own growing abilities. Ever since their encounter with Draycen, her telepathy had sharpened—so much so that she could now sense others' thoughts even through devices designed to block telepathic interference.

As they blended into the crowd, Elara noticed something strange. A boy nearby was holding an iPad, but it suddenly began to shift in his hands as if an invisible force was tugging at it. He looked around, bewildered, unsure of what had just happened. Unbeknownst to him, Elara had developed telekinetic abilities during their confrontation with Draycen. She stared at the iPad, her mind racing. She hadn't meant to move it—it had simply responded to her.

Maya glanced at Elara, sensing her unease. She whispered, "Are you okay?"

Elara nodded hesitantly but couldn't shake the strange feeling. Her new power was unpredictable, and she wasn't sure how to control it yet. Meanwhile, the assembly began, and the three of them tried to act as normal as possible, though the tension from their escape still lingered in the air.

After the assembly line was dismissed, the teachers headed to their respective classrooms, prepared to resume lessons, as the semester was already well underway. Elara walked behind Maya, who effortlessly propelled herself forward with her newfound telekinetic abilities, soaring just above the ground. The momentum made her movements faster and smoother, and she quickly closed the distance to her classroom.

Suddenly, a booming voice echoed through the hallway. "Maya, wait!" Elara called; her voice amplified by the sub-ability of her telepathy. The force of the telepathic projection made the sound resonate with a strange, almost magnetic intensity.

The students and teachers glanced around, curious about the unexpected disturbance. Most ignored it, but many couldn't help but stare in Elara's direction, their minds buzzing with one question: When did she develop that telepathic sub-ability?

Maya stopped abruptly, her feet hitting the ground with a sharp thud. She turned to face Elara, a raised eyebrow signaling her confusion. "What is it? I'm only one meter away from my classroom," she asked, a slight frown forming on her face.

Elara caught up to her and lowered her voice, though her excitement was palpable. "Can you teach me how to propel myself like that with telekinesis?" she asked, her eyes wide with curiosity.

Maya's eyes widened in surprise, and she involuntarily spoke louder than intended. "Wait! You've developed telekinesis this semester? That's amazing!"

The sound of her voice was enough to catch the attention of a few teachers, who poked their heads out of their classrooms and shot Maya a look. "Hurry up and get to your classroom, now!" one of them called sternly.

Maya flashed a bright, sheepish smile. "Alright, sir," she replied playfully before turning back to Elara, her excitement still buzzing. "Let's go, Elara. I'll teach you during recess."

"Thanks," Elara replied, her tone sincere, yet tinged with eagerness. As they walked off toward their respective classrooms, both of them silently anticipated the next lesson—one that went beyond their usual curriculum.
