The reflection in the crystalline pool was unsettling. It wasn't a perfect mirror image, but a distorted, shadowy version of herself, with those same burning red eyes. Lyra stared, her breath catching in her throat. Was this her true form in Umbra? A creature of shadow and fire?
She reached out, her fingers brushing the cool surface of the water. The reflection rippled, the red eyes flickering like dying embers. Then, a voice, soft and ethereal, echoed from the depths of the pool.
"Lyra..."
It wasn't Caelum. It was a voice she didn't recognize, a voice that seemed to whisper from the very heart of Umbra.
"Who's there?" she asked, her voice trembling.
"I am the Echo of Shadows," the voice replied, its tone both ancient and gentle. "I am the reflection of all that is hidden, all that is forgotten."
"What do you want?" Lyra asked, her gaze fixed on the shadowy reflection.
"To show you the truth," the Echo said. "The truth about yourself, about Lumina, about Umbra."
The reflection in the pool began to shift, morphing into a series of images. Lyra saw glimpses of her childhood, moments of joy and laughter, but also moments of loneliness and isolation. She saw images of Lumina, its gleaming cities and sun-drenched landscapes, but she also saw shadows lurking beneath the surface, whispers of secrets and hidden fears.
Then, the images shifted again, showing her Umbra. She saw the twisted trees, the luminous fungi, the shadowy creatures that roamed the forest. But she also saw something else: a sense of ancient power, a raw, untamed energy that resonated with a part of her soul.
"You are not a creature of Lumina," the Echo said, its voice echoing in her mind. "You are a bridge between worlds, a child of both light and shadow."
"But... my magic," Lyra stammered. "The Lunar Bloom. It's forbidden in Lumina."
"Because they fear it," the Echo replied. "They fear what they do not understand. They fear the power of the moon, the power of the shadows."
The reflection in the pool shifted again, showing her an image of Caelum, his face filled with worry and determination.
"He cares for you, Lyra," the Echo said. "He sees the truth that Lumina refuses to acknowledge."
"But the Keepers..." Lyra began, fear creeping back into her voice.
"They are guardians of the void," the Echo explained. "They seek to maintain the balance between worlds. But sometimes, balance requires disruption. Sometimes, the truth must be revealed."
The reflection faded, leaving only the dark, still surface of the pool. The Echo's voice lingered in her mind, its words echoing like a prophecy.
"You must choose, Lyra," the Echo said. "Light or shadow? Truth or illusion? Your destiny awaits."
Lyra stared at the pool, her mind reeling. She was a bridge between worlds, a child of both light and shadow. She had to choose. But how could she choose when she didn't even know who she was?
A rustling sound from the trees snapped her out of her trance. The red eyes were back, glowing in the darkness. The shadowy creature from before emerged from the trees, its gaze fixed on her.
It tilted its head, as if waiting for her to make a decision. Lyra took a deep breath, her heart pounding in her chest. She had to find Caelum. She had to find the truth. And she had to make her own choice.
She looked at the shadowy creature, its red eyes glowing in the twilight. "Lead the way," she said, her voice firm. "Take me to him."
