The standoff stretched in silence. The soldiers stood firm, weapons locked on Riven and his allies. Above them, drones hovered, their red sensors locked onto every movement.
Torsen's voice crackled over the speakers again. "You've caused enough trouble. Surrender now, and maybe I'll let you live."
Lirian scoffed. "You're terrible at negotiations."
Riven's mind raced. Fighting head-on was suicide. But surrender wasn't an option.
Then, a flicker of movement caught his eye—from the shadows behind the soldiers. A lone figure moved with precision, unseen by the enemy.
Riven didn't react outwardly, but he knew. Someone was about to turn the tide.
Torsen's voice continued. "No? Fine. Open fire."
Before the soldiers could pull their triggers, the unseen figure struck.
A blur of motion. Silent but deadly.
One soldier collapsed, his throat sliced before he could scream. Another spun, only to have a dagger buried in his chest.
Panic erupted among Torsen's men. "We're under attack!"
Riven seized the moment. He lunged forward, cutting down a distracted soldier.
Lirian fired his rifle, taking out another. "Who the hell—"
The masked figure moved between the soldiers like a shadow, striking with lethal precision. A dagger in one hand, a short sword in the other.
It was over in seconds.
The remaining soldiers fled, dragging their wounded. The drones disengaged, their orders overridden.
Silence returned.
The masked figure stood before Riven, their face hidden beneath a dark hood.
Riven tensed. "Who are you?"
The figure didn't answer immediately. Then, in a calm voice—
"Someone who's been watching you."
Riven narrowed his eyes. "That's not an answer."
The figure let out a quiet chuckle. "No, it's not. But for now, it's all you need to know."
Before Riven could respond, the masked warrior turned and disappeared into the night.
Lirian let out a breath. "Well. That was dramatic."
Seren stared at where the figure had vanished. "They were… unbelievably skilled."
Riven remained silent. He didn't know who that was.
But something told him this wasn't the last time they'd meet.
And somehow, he had the feeling…
They weren't an enemy.
