Torsen stepped forward, his heavy boots echoing across the rooftop. His eyes, cold and calculating, locked onto Riven.
"I should have killed you the first time we met," Torsen said, rolling his shoulders. "But I like breaking things first."
Riven didn't respond. He adjusted his stance, his dagger gleaming in the moonlight.
Lirian whispered to Seren, "We should flank him."
Before they could act, Torsen lunged.
He moved faster than his size suggested. A massive fist shot toward Riven, who barely dodged in time. The impact dented the metal beneath them, sending shockwaves through the rooftop.
"He's enhanced," Seren muttered, scanning his movements.
Riven struck, his dagger aiming for Torsen's ribs. But the man caught his wrist mid-attack, twisting it violently. Riven gritted his teeth as pain shot through his arm.
Torsen smirked. "Too slow."
He swung Riven like a ragdoll, slamming him against a vent. Metal crumpled under the force.
Lirian fired his rifle, the bullets sparking off Torsen's armor. The man barely flinched.
Seren threw a flash grenade. It detonated with a blinding light, forcing Torsen to stumble back, cursing.
Riven pushed himself up, shaking off the pain. He couldn't fight Torsen head-on. But he didn't have to.
He needed to be smarter.
Torsen regained his vision, charging again. But this time, Riven sidestepped, guiding the brute's momentum toward the edge of the rooftop.
Torsen skidded to a stop, inches from the drop.
Riven didn't hesitate. He lunged, slashing at the straps of Torsen's armor. The weight of it shifted, throwing him off balance.
Lirian saw the opening and fired a shot at Torsen's knee. The impact sent him stumbling further.
Seren kicked a loose metal beam under his foot. It slipped.
Torsen's eyes widened as he lost his footing.
For a moment, silence.
Then, he fell.
The rooftop trembled as he crashed onto a lower platform.
Riven stared down. Torsen groaned, his armor dented but still intact.
Lirian sighed. "Of course he's not dead."
Seren pulled out her tablet. "We can't stay here. More troops inbound."
Riven nodded. "Then we leave him behind."
Torsen's voice, weak but furious, echoed from below. "This isn't over, Riven!"
Riven turned away. "It never is."
They sprinted across the rooftop, leaping onto the next building just as reinforcements swarmed the factory below.
The night swallowed them as they disappeared into the shadows.
The hunt would continue.
But Riven wasn't running anymore.
He was preparing.
