Chapter 92: Three Princesses Join the Battlefield [14]
St. Marian's Castle, not counting the basement whose depths no one knew, consisted of nine full floors. The area students used for classes occupied only a very small part of it.
Even graduates who had spent a full six years in this castle rarely managed to explore the entire visible map.
Without events like the masquerade ball, this number would be even smaller.
This was clearly a good opportunity to map out the area.
...
And as a large number of students poured into the castle.
Accompanied by Headmistress Cynthia, the kingdom's only three princesses also stepped into the castle.
The eldest princess, Elisa.
Princess Anna, who was born three seconds earlier by a slim margin.
Princess Angie, who lost her place in life by those three seconds.
The three princesses each changed into costumes that concealed their faces.
Headmistress Cynthia asked with concern, "Next, do you really not need me to accompany you?"
Princess Elisa nodded slightly, "This is a rare opportunity to relax; I want to walk around alone. If possible, please take care of my two younger sisters, Headmistress. They are rather mischievous."
Angie, trying hard to stuff herself into a teddy bear costume, raised her head sharply and said嗔怒道, "Sister, didn't we agree not to expose my shortcomings in front of others?"
Princess Elisa reached out and pinched her cheek, which was so soft it felt like it would melt, a trace of doting affection flashing in her eyes, "Headmistress Cynthia is not an outsider."
Angie still puffed up her cheeks.
Anna, beside her, suddenly poked her and chuckled, "Little sister who never grows up."
Angie said angrily, "You're the little sister!"
Anna held her neck high like a swan, "I am the older sister; I won't stoop to the level of a younger sister."
As they were bickering, Princess Anna suddenly turned and asked, "By the way, Aunt Cynthia, is that annoying fellow Dark Demon also here?"
Headmistress Cynthia showed a gentle smile, "Yes, he just enrolled this year. By this time next year, he will be your senior."
"No way?" Princess Anna seemed to have only just remembered this matter and stiffened, "Then can I not come next year?"
Elisa flicked her forehead, "Nonsense. Didn't you say you wanted to graduate from the same school as sister?"
Anna: "That was then, this is now, ouch!"
"Hahaha, little brat, you don't consider the bigger picture!"
Angie, seizing the opportunity to give her a flick on the head, put on her costume head and ran.
Anna immediately bared her teeth and claws and chased after her!
Elisa quickly looked at Cynthia, "Headmistress."
Headmistress Cynthia nodded lightly, and then two small spirits carrying House Cards flew out from her side, quickly chasing after Anna and Angie.
Elisa breathed a slight sigh of relief and put on an exquisite mask that only revealed her nose and mouth, "Then, Headmistress, I'll be going too."
...
Southwest of the castle, second floor.
Dark Demon failed to shake off Diana and Rose Flotly in the crowd and could only temporarily accompany them for a while.
Students from the second year and above had experience and were relatively purposeful, quickly heading to various parts of the castle.
The first-year students, however, were completely disorganized.
"Dark Demon, shouldn't we chase after them?"
Diana looked anxious, like a child afraid of having her candy snatched away.
Rose also looked towards Dark Demon.
Dark Demon patted his forehead; it seemed he really needed to guide them for a while.
So he said patiently, "Don't worry, the professors have definitely prepared enough ghosts. In the early stages of the ball, even if you don't look for them, they will come looking for you."
As he spoke, he pointed upwards.
Diana looked up sharply and saw a hanged ghost with an extremely long neck descending from the ceiling!
"Wow~"
"Ah!"
Diana immediately drew a magic card and excitedly summoned her [Mystic Beast: Polar Bear].
The Polar Bear landed in a white light, then immediately stood on its hind legs and lunged fiercely at the hanged ghost!
Rose screamed in fright and subconsciously grabbed Dark Demon's arm.
Diana made a judgment in an instant and grabbed Dark Demon's other arm.
Dark Demon, with both arms grabbed, watched helplessly as the Polar Bear's claws passed through the hanged ghost's spectral body. Then, the hanged ghost stuck out its long, blood-red tongue and licked the back of the Polar Bear's neck.
The Polar Bear immediately shivered, powerless and furious!
"Jie Jie Jie!"
The hanged ghost cackled, teasing the Polar Bear repeatedly with its tongue, thoroughly enjoying itself.
And the Polar Bear was like a kitten chasing a butterfly...
The compatibility between the purely physical-attacking Polar Bear and the ghost was truly terrible.
Even though it was only a one-star hanged ghost, it tormented them considerably.
In the end, it was Rose who mustered her courage and summoned [Mystic Beast: Snow Hare], sending it to heaven with a puff of ice mist.
When the hanged ghost disappeared, a piece of candy immediately fell.
Dark Demon, finally free, bent down to pick up the candy on the ground and unwrapped it with a hint of suspicion.
The candy itself looked like an extremely ordinary toffee, but the wrapper was engraved with intricate patterns.
Dark Demon had an epiphany, "So the wrapper is the main thing!"
Seeing his joyful expression, Diana asked, "Dark Demon, did you discover something?"
Dark Demon was about to throw away the toffee inside the wrapper when he suddenly saw Diana staring intently at him. He held onto the wrapper and handed the toffee over.
"Ah-mou"
Diana bit into the toffee.
Only then did Dark Demon pick up the wrapper to examine it closely.
"It's a one-time-use magic card. It should have been pre-infused with magic power and can last until 12 o'clock at night."
Dark Demon was very interested in this craftsmanship and carefully put the wrapper away.
"Let's go, let's continue."
...
Half an hour later.
The three of them had crossed the entire second floor.
Dark Demon reached out to wipe the cream from the corner of Diana's mouth and put the thirteenth wrapper into his pocket.
Most of the ghosts they encountered along the way were one-star and two-star. Some dropped toffees, some dropped apple candies, and some dropped a small piece of pumpkin pie... but they were all in exquisite wrappers.
"What marvelous ball desserts."
Dark Demon finished the last bit of pumpkin pie and said to Diana and Rose, "Next, let's split up. Hmm, let me see, meet in the first-floor lobby in five hours."
Diana said obediently, "Okay, see you at the ball!"
Rose also smiled, "Don't worry about us."
During this half hour, Dark Demon hadn't made a move, basically guiding Diana and Rose in coordinating to catch ghosts.
Unknowingly, the two of them actually achieved a ranking in the first-year Nobles' House (top 12 to get on the leaderboard).
It seemed that even though they were only dealing with low-level ghosts that popped up on their own, their progress was faster than many others.
And Dark Demon himself, still at +0.
...
Although Dark Demon himself didn't care, in a certain corner of the castle, someone seemed to be constantly paying attention to his ranking.
Virt, ranked third in the first-year Knight's House, couldn't help but feel even more excited when he saw that Dark Demon's name was not among the rankings in the first-year Nobles' House.
"Keep it up, Robert!"
"Okay!"
