Chapter 143: Dark Demon: Unearned Gains
"You guessed right."
Facing Dark's question, Principal Cynthia merely nodded slightly, a smile playing on her lips. "The hero of the Twilight War," she began, "Claire Kite, known as the [Beast Sage], will arrive at St. Marian next week!"
With Principal Cynthia's official announcement, the classroom instantly erupted in chatter.
Although Claire wasn't as famous as the Heroes or the Valkyries, bearing the title of "Sage" naturally meant she held a certain renown.
Moreover, a portrait of the [Beast Sage] still hung on the Honor Wall of the Magic Academy!
Naturally, the students of the Magic Academy were the most excited about this.
The Magic Academy students eagerly discussed the news, feeling especially thrilled about a hero who hailed from their own academy.
Meanwhile, students from the Fool's House also stirred with interest.
A girl from the Fool's House suddenly raised her hand and asked, "Excuse me, will Ms. Claire Kite be taking on the role of Dean for the Fool's House?"
Four branches, four deans.
However, ever since Professor Didi's resignation, the position of Dean for the Fool's House had remained vacant, leaving the students of the Fool's House without a leader.
Naturally, they harbored even more fantasies about the new professor.
Principal Cynthia explained, "Claire will temporarily serve as the Magic History professor until the end of this semester. However, whether she continues to serve, or whether she takes on the role of Dean for the Fool's House, will require some time for consideration. Both parties need to consider."
Upon hearing Principal Cynthia's affirmative answer, Dark slumped into his seat.
As one of Valkyrie Alvit's good friends during her student days, Claire Kite had maintained contact with her even after the war.
In fact, she had temporarily resided in the Duke's Mansion for quite some time!
This [Beast Sage] was indeed as Principal Cynthia described: gentle, soft-spoken, quiet, and learned – a truly admirable hero.
Her only drawback, perhaps, was her fondness for turning people into animals!
He closed his eyes, listening to the students' excited discussions, and simply felt how naive these children were.
When they got turned into cats and dogs for angering Claire, or even for making Claire happy, perhaps then they would understand what it means to say, "Even sages make mistakes"?
In any case, apart from Dark's less-than-favorable impression of Claire, all the other students were extremely happy.
And after this class, the news that the [Beast Sage] would temporarily take over as Magic History professor spread rapidly through the first-years' discussions.
It wasn't long before the entire academy knew about it.
Even some who hadn't paid much attention to heroic deeds in the past began to look up information.
After all, Claire Kite was a genuine battlefield hero.
Who wouldn't want a hero as their lecturing professor?
That evening.
While Dark was doing his homework in the library, a curious Diana quietly asked, "Dark, do you know the new Magic History professor?"
Dark nodded slightly and whispered, "We've spent some time together."
Diana was a little envious: "So what kind of person is Ms. Claire Kite exactly? Will she tell stories of heroes like Principal Cynthia? Will she give a lot of homework? Does she like bears?"
Dark looked at Diana's pure, unblemished eyes, a warmth stirring in his heart, then said, "How should I put it... she's someone whose character matches her name, I suppose. I think Diana will definitely find common ground with her."
Diana immediately patted her chest, relieved: "That's good then."
The students had expectations for the new professor, but also some worries.
But ultimately, their anticipation was higher.
Dark even overheard first-year students from the Magic Academy and the Fool's House planning some kind of surprise.
The good news, however, was that Claire Kite would only serve at St. Marian until the end of this semester, likely just temporarily filling the position.
The Principal would most likely find a more suitable professor during this time.
After returning to his dorm, Dark completed the final extraction of his [Lust].
As of now.
The [Lust] stored within the Bug Tree totaled five points, while [Sloth] held one point.
Dark currently had two ideas.
One was to use the [Fruit of Lust] next month to refine two more Magic Spirit Cards.
The other was to find a way to continue accumulating, and once he had twenty points of [Lust], to make a push for [Lust IV]!
The former was the more reliable option.
The latter held greater promise, but he wasn't sure if twenty points of [Lust] would be enough.
However, once the time came, he would still have half a month to consider.
The next day was Friday.
After the morning's dueling class ended, the students once again looked forward to their trip to Traveler's Street.
There were no Traveler's Street-related assignments this week, and the first-years seemed to have gone a long time without freely enjoying themselves. Coupled with being constantly suppressed by homework, each of them was exhausted.
The moment noon struck.
Students began to stream into Traveler's Street in small groups.
Dark waited a little while, only setting off to enter Traveler's Street at one o'clock.
He headed straight for the Catnip Flower and Wood Shop, first greeting the cats, then asking the shop assistant,
"Miss Cat, has there been any progress on the development of Bunny Grass?"
The shop assistant was quite pleased that someone was consistently remembering their new product: "Progress is good. Results should be available in as little as half a month, or at most two months. Demon, do you think Bunny Grass will sell well?"
Dark smiled, "I think so. After all, bunnies are so cute."
Then he took a quick look around the secret room but didn't buy any new Cat Grass.
This weekend.
Dark spent even more time studying [Magical Language].
His progress wasn't slow; he was gradually getting the hang of it.
Senior Pandora's guidance was like opening a window for him, allowing him to see the scene inside the room more clearly, making his studies much easier.
And as he put in effort on this.
Meanwhile, Vit and Robert once again ventured deep into the secret passage, embarking on an adventure to find treasure.
On another front, Emma Metis's research into the ancient murals had reached a critical point.
On Sunday evening, Emma sought out Dark and shared her research findings.
Dark felt somewhat awkward, as he hadn't had any time to research the murals himself thus far…
But Emma didn't complain about this.
She had consulted many documents, questioned senior students, and conducted detailed deductions and analyses according to her own line of thought, finally achieving some results.
Dark moved one seat further in, making space for Emma to sit beside him.
As Emma shared her findings, a smile kept playing on her lips.
She spread open her notebook and said softly, "If my analysis isn't mistaken, these murals should date back to the Hyper-Ancient Era, four eras ago. Back then, there were numerous gods, either residing in the heavens or mingling among humanity…"
