Da Vinci POV
"Da Vinci—sensei, so what's the continuation of the story? So far you have made quite a lot of novels related to Chaldea, from Fate/Zero; you even made a visual novel for Fate/Stay Night. I want to ask if there are any other novels that you will make."
I just smiled; actually, there are many stories that I can make into novels, and my Chaldea novel is already in the last singularity, the temple of time.
Even though I said Last Singularity, there are actually many more things I could include, like Lostbelt, but I plan to make a sequel to that after I make another novel.
"Actually, I was thinking, what if I wrote a novel about magical girls? It would be fun, right? So for my next novel, I will use the magical girl theme."
"But isn't it full of risks? You know that there is little interest in the magical girl theme, so why now? Why not continue by making a sequel about the world of Chaldea?"
I sighed. How can I explain that this magical girl is not like the previous ones? I made this because I remembered Chloe, Miyu, and Illya. Yeah, I also understand what they mean; it's true that the magical girl theme is rarely requested, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
"Maybe you're right; this Magical Girl theme has few fans. But I still want to try it; after all, this magical girl is still connected to Chaldea, so maybe many people will accept it, so why not give it a try?"
I saw my editor thinking hard; he also couldn't make a choice. On the one hand, he had never been disappointed by me; on the other hand, he also didn't want to take any risks.
"This is an early draft of the novel; you can read it and give me feedback."
So I stood up and gave him time, whether he wanted to take the risk or not, even though I would still publish my novel with a Magical Girl theme.
I walked towards the door, but my editor stopped me; he bowed and apologized.
"I'm sorry I doubted you, Sensei. I see potential in this work of yours. I want you to give me time to convince the production house to publish this."
I just nodded, and then I left my editor's office. When I came out of my editor's room, many people looked at me with sparkling eyes. Maybe they are my fans? Ah, never mind; I don't care; there are more important things.
I have a signing event; without realizing it, 1 year has passed, and many of my works have been adapted into anime, even games, but the one I am most proud of is Snapper The Vigilante. Since the beginning of the release of this manga, I have received a lot of positive responses from the mutant community; they feel that finally someone has raised the theme of discrimination against mutants.
Not only that, but in this manga there are also many mutants who register to become heroes. Although not many of them can enter the hero school. But a little is good, more than enough to give an example that mutants can also be heroes. And a year after the release of the manga, today, I held a signing event.
But this isn't just a signing event. But the cosplay event as Snapper too; I want everyone who joins this event to cosplay as the character in the manga Snapper the vigilante.
I want to break down the barriers between humans with quirk mutations and humans with normal appearances. I want them to be their favorite characters; I want them to have fun with this. I hope this signing event is successful.
After leaving the production house, I went to the signing event venue by car. I made this car myself; with the financial help from Nezu, I can be creative without limits, fufu. I will make something for Nezu later.
My trip was quite short because the event venue was not far from the production house. There I saw that the event venue was full of many people. Many of them are dressed up like Snapper, eh? I saw one that looks a lot like Snapper. I think I have my winning candidate. Even though it's still too early to decide on that, he's on my favorites list.
I got out of the car and stepped into the venue; many cameras were pointing at me, and I could also see many of my fans who were starstruck.
Not long after that, I arrived in front of the stage; actually, this stage will be used for cosplayers to give their performances there. But for now I will have this stage, for the brilliance of Da Vinci's genius cannot be contained.
"Welcome all of you to my signing event. I'm so grateful that you guys could come here, and also I saw you guys go all out in your cosplay costumes. I like it!"
Cheers erupted in the building. I smiled seeing this; after the welcoming speech, not much happened, but I signed their manga until I finally met him, the person who cosplayed the character Snapper perfectly.
"Hey, what's your name? I really like your style; the way you cosplay the character Snapper makes me think that Snapper appears in the real world."
I saw him blush; it seemed like he was embarrassed. But I admit he looks like what I drew. What are the chances of this happening? It may not be much, but here he is, standing in front of me holding a manga book.
He answered shyly, saying that actually his appearance was very similar to Snapper's.
"I, have had this appearance since the beginning; many people teased me by calling me Lizard Boy, and I didn't like this discrimination, but since I got to know your manga, I gained courage. I gained the courage to come out of my shell. I wanted to be better. I wanted to be like him. I wanted to be Snapper. With that goal in mind, I practiced using weapons, and even though I wasn't as skilled as Snapper, I could at least defend myself."
I smiled when I heard that; it seems like I managed to convey my message in this manga. If many Heteromorphs have the same mindset as the young man in front of me, I am sure that Heteromorphs will not have to endure discrimination for long.
Moreover, this discrimination occurs because many ordinary people and ignorant people do not know heteromorphs properly.
They only know that heteromorphs are people whose quirk mutations are the strangest and not the same as ordinary humans.
Sometimes I wonder, what year are we actually living in? Why does this old-fashioned thinking persist? Judging people by their appearance is an old-fashioned thing that still exists today. If I had the Holy Grail, I would erase that old-fashioned way of thinking.
"That's great then; if you could become a real-world Snapper, I'm sure the world would know other Heteromorphs as humans too. Unfortunately, it would be very long and tiring. I can only hope that this manga can erase other people's hatred towards the Heteromorphs."
I saw his eyes sparkle; he nodded his head, and his hands gripped the manga tightly.
The event is still ongoing; many people are also cosplaying other characters, such as Snapper's teacher named Swallow, Rattikus, and Legolas.
But what surprised me the most was one person. I thought meeting someone who cosplayed Snapper perfectly was a coincidence, but this, he cosplayed Snapper's rival. Mister Octoplasm, a human with a mutation that gives him powers like an octopus.
But what makes Mister Octoplasm a rival to Snapper is his ability to control his body; he can control all the cells in his body. With this ability, he can land a terrifying attack by compressing all his muscles in one hand. Moreover, this Octoplasm has quite terrifying regeneration; with his control over his body, he can manipulate his regeneration to be very fast.
"Wow, I didn't think I would meet someone who looks so much like Mr. Octoplasm. Hmm, you look young. Do you want to be a hero?"
I saw that Mr. Octoplasm was embarrassed; he seemed to be holding his manga tightly. Maybe I was too much when I asked.
"Sorry if you feel uncomfortable; I'm just happy to see Mister Octoplasm appear in front of me in the real world. Your cosplay as him was a huge success."
I gave him a thumbs up, my appreciation for his total cosplay, similar to the Snapper cosplayer earlier.
The boy nodded; he raised his hand, and a mouth appeared there.
'Wow, good body control. It's not wrong that he cosplayed the character of Mister Octoplasm; it's very similar.'
"It's okay, I'm just speechless. This is the first time I've been praised by my idol. Thank you for making such a good manga."
I smiled when I heard that; it seems my message has been conveyed; now we just have to wait and see whether discrimination will decrease or increase; only time will tell.
The event lasted quite a long time; 4 hours passed, and the long queue was finally over. I feel tired, but it's nothing; I'm happy to meet my fans. I can see that most of them are heteromorphs.
They are sweet. I also like their shy behavior, but the thing I like the most is when other fans meet the Heteromorphs, they praise them; it makes me smile. I am happy.
After my signing event After finishing, I then walked up the stage; I wanted to announce the results of who cosplayed the character best.
"Thank you all for attending this event. I am very grateful that you have taken the trouble to cosplay as my manga characters. But! Because of that, I want to give a prize for the best cosplayer here. I found 2 people who are very similar to the character I made. I even thought that character came out of my manga panel! Give a thunderous applause to number 137 and number 443!!"
I could see that the two people were also shocked; they then walked towards the stage nervously. Along the way, they also received compliments from the cosplayers there; I think they were happy with the compliments.
"How do you feel about being chosen as the winner? You two are so cool!"
"I, I think I like this feeling. I always want to be seen as cool by others, but before I knew this manga, I had almost no confidence. But now, I can say that we Heteromorphs are also humans. With this manga, I have seen many people open up to Heteromorphs. Thank you, thank you for this precious manga."
I saw Snapper bowing and thanking me; I could only smile; maybe what Mom said was true. This discrimination can be reduced in this way.
"Raise your head. Snapper, from the start I created this manga with the aim of reducing discrimination against Heteromorphs. Do you know why? Because my mother could not bear to see discrimination happening."
"This world could be more peaceful if discrimination was eliminated, but that is not an easy thing; it is difficult, in fact. But if I manage to make people sympathize with the Heteromorphs with my manga, then discrimination will go down even if it's a little."
"But we'll be able to find a way out because of you. You are all the Snappers in the real world; all of you here are characters who are free from discrimination, and I want this to continue to happen. I should be the one thanking you guys. Thank you!"
I can see some of them shedding tears; maybe this is also what I imagine, a world without discrimination is still very far away; here, as a starting point, is only a stepping stone. Then I handed it over to them.
"I'm sorry, I was too excited earlier that we forgot about Mister Octoplasm. He is Snapper's rival; he is also the protector of the Heteromorphs in the manga. We get a clearer picture of what it would be like if Octoplasm appeared in the real world!! Is there something you want to say, Mister Octoplasm?"
Without holding a mic, Mr. Octoplasm speaks; he creates a mouth on his hand for that.
"I'm not the type who can speak fluently on stage, but! I want to make people not look at Heteromorphs badly; I want them to think we're cool too, maybe. But the most important thing is that I want to be a hero, everyone's hero. I want to make Heteromorphs look equal to everyone else and reduce discrimination. You know, the manga that I have was given to me by a little kid that I helped. She said that I look like Mr. Octoplasm in the manga; since then, I want to be like him. A person who helps everyone, I want to be like him. No! I will become Mr. Octoplasm in real life!"
After the boy expressed his feelings, the building erupted with applause and shouts of "You can do it!" Ah, I will remember this event until the end of my life here. Scratch that. I will remember even when I return to the throne of heroes.
'Snapper and Mr. Octoplasm, I leave the future of Heteromorph in your hands.'
