I stared at Elijah in shock, my mind reeling from the battle I had just witnessed. The shadowy figures were gone, but the memory of their glowing eyes and twisted faces would haunt me for a long time.
Elijah's chest was still heaving with exhaustion, his eyes locked on mine with a mixture of concern and fear. "Ava, are you okay?" he asked, his voice low and husky.
I nodded, still trying to process what had just happened. "Y-yes, I think so," I stuttered.
Elijah's eyes narrowed, his gaze sweeping over me as if searching for injuries. "You're shaking," he said, his voice soft with concern.
I looked down at my hands, surprised to see that they were indeed trembling. "I-I guess I'm just in shock," I said, trying to laugh it off.
Elijah's expression turned serious, his eyes burning with intensity. "Ava, I need to tell you something," he said, his voice low and urgent.
I felt a shiver run down my spine as Elijah's eyes locked onto mine. What was he going to tell me? And why did I get the feeling that my life was about to change forever?
"You're in danger Ava, Those creatures that attacked us, they're not human. They're...something else."
I saw them so I obviously know they can't be human neither are you a human Elijah, my question now is what in hell's name are you guys, what is the something else.
Now listen to what I'm about telling you ava, okay? Ok I responded with a lot of curiosity in my voice but what I heard was something more than strange.
"I'm a wolf ava", and so were those other creatures and that goes for you too, you are not a human ava, you are... Stop! Elijah enough , what on Earth's name are you saying, are we acting some sort of movie or fairytale, ok let's say you are a wolf, I mean what I saw you turn into was definitely not human like, but what do you mean I'm a wolf too, ava you are a wolf believe it or not and you are the key to unlocking an ancient power which is why u are in danger. Look ava you have to believe me, the earlier you believe and start working on how to awaken ur powers the better, then you would be able to protect yourself even when I'm not there.
I sat on the floor thinking of what Elijah said, how on earth s name did I get tied up in all this mess.
Everything would be fine ava but we need to get out of here first.
I nodded, still trying to process what was happening. Wait we have to run again! I thought you said it was safe here. It was safe but it's no longer safe so we have to run, Elijah took my hand, his grip warm and reassuring, he pulled me through the trees.
As we walked, the forest seemed to grow darker and more menacing. I stumbled, my foot catching on a hidden root, but Elijah caught me, his arms wrapping around me to steady me.
For a moment, we stood there, our bodies pressed together. I felt a flutter in my chest, a spark of attraction that I couldn't ignore.
But Elijah's expression was serious, his eyes locked on mine with a warning. "Ava, we need to keep moving. We're not safe yet."
I nodded, still feeling the warmth of his body against mine. As we continued through the forest, I couldn't shake the feeling that we were being watched, that unblinking eyes were trained on us from the darkness.
And I wondered what other secrets Elijah was hiding, what other dangers awaits us.
As we walked, the trees seemed to close in around us, casting long, ominous shadows on the ground. I stumbled again, my heart racing with fear.
Elijah caught me, his arms wrapping around me to steady me. "Ava, I've got you," he whispered, his breath warm against my ear.
I nodded, feeling a sense of relief wash over me. But as I looked up at Elijah, I saw something in his eyes that made my heart skip a beat.
It was a flicker of fear, a hint of uncertainty. And in that moment, I realized that Elijah wasn't as confident as he seemed.
"What's wrong?" I whispered, my eyes locked on his.
Elijah hesitated, his gaze darting around the forest. "I don't know if we can outrun them," he said, his voice barely above a whisper.
I felt a chill run down my spine as Elijah's words hung in the air. Who were "they"? And what did they want?
Suddenly, Elijah's head snapped up, his ears perked as if listening to something. "Do you hear that?" he whispered.
I listened, my heart pounding in my chest. And then, I heard it too - the sound of footsteps, echoing through the forest.
They were coming for us.
Elijah's eyes locked onto mine, his gaze burning with intensity. "We need to keep moving," he whispered, his voice urgent.
I nodded, my heart racing with fear. We took off again, our footsteps quiet on the forest floor.
As we ran, the footsteps behind us grew louder. I could feel the ground vibrating beneath my feet, and I knew that our pursuers were gaining on us.
Elijah suddenly veered off the path, pulling me into a dense thicket of bushes. We crouched down, our breathing ragged, as the footsteps thundered past us.
I let out a sigh of relief as the footsteps faded into the distance. But Elijah's expression was grim.
"We can't stay here," he whispered. "We need to keep moving."
I nodded, my heart still racing with fear. We crept out of the thicket, our eyes scanning the forest for any sign of danger.
As we emerged from the trees, I saw a glimmer of light in the distance. It was a house, its windows shining like beacons in the darkness.
Elijah's eyes locked onto the house, his gaze burning with intensity. "That's where we need to go," he whispered.
I nodded, my heart still pounding with fear. We took off towards the house, our footsteps quiet on the forest floor.
As we approached the house, I saw that it was old and dilapidated, its windows boarded up and its door hanging crookedly on its hinges.
Elijah pushed open the door, his eyes scanning the interior of the house. "Come on," he whispered.
I followed him inside, my heart still racing with fear. The house was dark and musty, its air thick with the scent of decay.
But Elijah seemed to know where he was going. He led me through the house, our footsteps echoing off the walls.
As we reached the back of the house, I saw a door that I hadn't noticed before. It was hidden behind a tattered curtain, and it looked like it hadn't been opened in years.
Elijah pushed open the door, his eyes scanning the space beyond. "This way," he whispered.
I followed him through the door, my heart still pounding with fear. And as I emerged into the bright sunlight, I saw something that made my blood run cold.
