The Vanishing Light

Pain shot through Aarav's body as he slammed into the cold, hard ground. His head spun, vision flickering in and out as he tried to grasp what had just happened. One second, he was reaching for Saira—the next, he was here.

But where was here?

The air was thick, suffocating. A strange haze blurred the surroundings, making everything look distorted, as if reality itself was melting. The walls around him pulsed like a heartbeat, shifting in color—dark red, deep blue, then back to an ominous black.

He tried to push himself up, but his limbs felt like lead. His mind screamed for him to run, to fight, to do something, but he could barely move.

And then, he saw it.

A figure stood in the distance.

Not Saira.

Not the shadow.

Something else.

Its form was indistinct, flickering like a mirage. But its eyes—if they could even be called that—glowed with a terrifying intensity.

Aarav's breath hitched. The whispers started again, slithering through the air like venomous smoke.

"You were warned."

"You did not listen."

"Now… you will understand."

A crushing weight pressed down on his chest. It wasn't physical, but it felt like his very soul was being squeezed. His mind twisted, filling with thoughts that weren't his own.

Memories surfaced.

Memories that did not belong to him.

He saw Saira—but she was different. Her eyes held secrets, her hands were stained with something dark, and behind her stood the very same shadow that had separated them.

It was not her captor.

It was her protector.

The realization slammed into him.

He had been wrong about everything.

Saira hadn't been taken.

She had chosen to stay.

The entity before him let out a low, rumbling sound—something between a growl and a chuckle. The world around him twisted further, and suddenly, the light began to fade.

Not just the light.

His very existence.

His hands started to blur, his body becoming nothing but a shadow of itself. His thoughts, his memories—they were slipping away.

The voice spoke once more, its tone final.

"You do not belong."

Aarav opened his mouth to scream, but no sound came.

Then—darkness.
