Evelyn listened intently as the officer revealed crucial details about the impending attack. His voice was calm, almost amused, as if he took pleasure in the knowledge that his words alone could shift the course of the war.
"The assault will come from three fronts," he explained, his chains clinking with every slight movement. "The main force will strike from the west, where your defenses are weakest. The second wave will come from the north, using the forests as cover. And the third…" He paused, letting the tension build. "They will strike from within."
Evelyn's blood ran cold. "What do you mean?"
The officer smirked. "You have traitors in your midst. They will open the gates when the time is right."
Kael slammed his fist onto the wooden table, shaking it. "Lies. You're trying to sow discord."
The officer shrugged. "Believe what you will. But when the gates swing open in the dead of night, you'll remember my warning."
Evelyn exchanged a tense glance with Kael. If there truly were traitors, their entire defense could crumble from within. She had to act fast.
She turned back to the prisoner. "Who are they?"
He chuckled. "That, dear commander, is something you'll have to find out yourself."
Evelyn clenched her fists. She hated making deals with enemies, but she needed to ensure her people's survival.
"Take him to a secure location," she ordered. "No one speaks to him without my permission."
As the guards hauled the prisoner away, Kael stepped closer. "What do we do now?"
Evelyn's expression hardened. "We prepare for war. And we root out the traitors before it's too late."
