The Burden of Knowledge

Evelyn's breaths came in shallow gasps as the weight of the visions settled upon her. The darkness from the orb still coiled within her mind, whispering secrets that had long been buried. The ancient war, the kingdoms lost to time, and the truth of her own existence—it was all too much.

Soren steadied her, his grip firm yet gentle. "Evelyn, talk to me. What did you see?"

She swallowed hard, her throat dry as she tried to find the words. "Everything," she whispered. "The rise and fall of empires. The origins of the darkness. The prophecy that binds me to it."

The Keeper of the Lost remained unmoving, his gaze locked onto her with something resembling pity. "Now you understand why this knowledge was never meant to be uncovered."

Evelyn clenched her fists, the images replaying in her mind like a cruel reminder. "Then why let me see it? If it's so dangerous, why give me this burden?"

The Keeper took a step closer, his silver eyes gleaming in the dim light. "Because you have already chosen your path. And there is no turning back. The darkness is now within you, and it will grow. It will test you, bend you, and in time, you must decide whether to fight it… or embrace it."

Soren's jaw tightened. "She's not alone. Whatever comes, we face it together."

The Keeper exhaled a long, tired breath. "Then I hope your strength is enough, knight, for the trials ahead will demand more than loyalty."

A sudden tremor shook the chamber. The glowing symbols on the walls flickered, dimming as an unseen force stirred within the ruins. The ground beneath them vibrated, the ancient stone groaning in protest.

Evelyn turned sharply to the Keeper. "What's happening?"

"The gate is closing. The knowledge has been claimed, and now the ruins will return to their slumber. You must leave. Now."

Without hesitation, Soren grabbed Evelyn's hand and pulled her toward the exit. The moment they stepped beyond the gateway, a deafening crash echoed behind them. The stone doors slammed shut, sealing away the chamber and the Keeper within.

Silence fell over the ruins.

Evelyn's heart pounded as she turned to face the sealed entrance. She could still feel the weight of the darkness within her, a constant, pulsing presence beneath her skin.

Soren squeezed her hand. "Are you alright?"

She hesitated before nodding. "I don't know what's ahead, but I know one thing for certain… the real journey is only beginning."

And as they stood beneath the moonlit sky, the whispers of the darkness echoed in her mind, a silent promise of the trials yet to come.
