Chapter 10: Light

What's going on? How come I don't feel any pain at all? Just as I was wondering, a warm voice came from above, "How are you?"

I opened my eyes and looked at the face above me. For a moment, I felt as though I had just seen Vie again, though he couldn't be a vampire because his eyes were silver-gray.

"What's wrong? Did you hurt somewhere?" His brow furrowed slightly, but his face still carried a radiant smile.

I didn't answer, just shook my head at him. But in my heart, I thought, if there are angels in this world, he must be one. However, I didn't like angels, and because of God, I even had some aversion to them.

"It's good that you're fine!" He looked at me with relief, then flashed a smile that was so bright it nearly blinded me.

"Jing!" Suddenly, a shout came from behind us. The young master rushed out and grabbed me, spinning around, "Brother, she's fine!"

"Rett! What are you doing here?" The young master stood there in surprise, forgetting why he had come out in the first place. But when he saw the expression on his brother's face, it was as if he had just met the most revered deity.

"Put me down!" When they reunited, I had no interest in watching them have an emotional, tearful moment.

"By the way, Jing, how are you?" It wasn't until then that the young master remembered why he came out, stepping forward to help me to the ground.

"Rest assured, with me here, how could anything happen?" Rett was always so cheerful no matter the situation. He looked like a sunbeam beside you, but I seemed to inherently dislike him, so I just wanted to get away as quickly as possible.

"Mm, with my second brother here, of course I believe nothing will happen. But..." The young master glanced at me, "Why did you fall from up there?"

"Who said I fell? I jumped," I didn't want to explain much, quickly walking toward the building.

"You jumped? Miss, do you not know that kind of height could kill you?" The sunny guy followed me, asking curiously.

"I didn't know, so I thought I'd try it out," I said flatly, walking into the hall. I saw people already eating breakfast, so I casually sat down, poured myself a glass of milk, and grabbed a piece of bread to eat. I hadn't slept all night, and my stomach was already empty.

The others looked at me in surprise and confusion when I entered, but when they saw him behind me, their faces immediately became respectful, as if they were seeing their guardian angel, all of them bowing slightly. He simply smiled in response and sat down opposite me, casually eating breakfast as well. "Miss, your thoughts are truly a bit special."

"Strange or not, there's no need for such pretense," I coldly retorted, biting into my bread and chewing slowly.

"Does the lady not like me?" His smile grew even brighter, but I only found it more irritating.

"Of course not. You ruined my fun earlier. If I liked you, do you think I'd still be sane?" Although he was radiant, always smiling, and friendly, he didn't understand that I was a ghost. To me, everything he had was just annoying.

"Brother! Does this lady always speak so harshly?" He knew I wasn't willing to engage with him, so he turned to the young master who had just entered.

"No, she normally doesn't speak at all," the young master, understanding me, said as he sat at his usual spot. Of course, others were more than willing to serve him without him lifting a finger.

"Then I should consider myself honored!" He smiled brightly and turned back to me. "I'm Rett. Miss, what's your name?"

"Give me a reason to tell you," I didn't even look up, replying coldly.

"I saved you just now. Does that reason work?"

"No! I didn't need saving from you."

"Then what will make you tell me your name?" He grew more curious, setting his food down and staring intently at me.

"Tell me where Safolot is," I casually asked, because I wasn't sure if they even knew where he was, but to shut him up, I just asked.

"You..." His face suddenly turned cold, but he quickly brightened again. "Why do you want to know the location of that vampire?"

"That's the second question. It needs a second reason."

"Alright, I'll tell you where he is. He's..."

"No! Second brother, don't!" The young master quickly stopped him.

"Brother, why not?"

"Because..."

"Because you're afraid that once she knows where Safolot is, she'll leave, right?" To my surprise, Rett seemed to understand the young master's thoughts perfectly. The young master smiled helplessly, acknowledging it without saying a word.

"But even if she doesn't know where Safolot is, she'll still leave you."

"Why?" The young master asked in confusion. In his heart, he always thought I was staying only to learn Safolot's whereabouts.

"Because... she's not human," Rett's words shocked everyone in the room. After a brief silence, someone finally reacted. "Then what is she? A ghost?"

"No! I don't know," he responded leisurely, taking a sip of milk.

"What do you mean?" The young master couldn't help but ask.

"I mean exactly what you heard. I just know that this lady is not human. As for what she is, I don't know. Why don't you ask her? Maybe she'll answer you," he suddenly smiled and turned to me, his silver eyes suddenly glowing intensely, making it hard for me to see. My heart jumped in surprise. I hadn't expected him to use such a tactic, one that even ghosts would disdain. I was furious and grabbed a cup to throw it at him, but the cup didn't hit his face as I had expected. Instead, it seemed to suddenly experience increased gravity midway and fell with a loud crash, spilling milk and fragments all over. I involuntarily jumped up, landing a foot off the ground to avoid everything.

"Jing!" The young master and others panicked, but he remained unaffected, still smiling calmly. As for me, I remained just as cold as ever. I sat back down, replaced my cup, and poured myself more milk, as if nothing had happened.

"Miss, you really are extraordinary."

"Hmph!" I coldly glanced at him, "But that trick of yours should be used less around me. Next time, I'll throw something much worse than half a cup of milk."

"Does Miss really fear others seeing her heart?"

"Maybe you think the hearts of these humans are nothing. They're foolish, still revering someone like you as a god, bowing to you respectfully. But I'm not human. And my heart is not something anyone can casually look into, especially not you... you're not qualified."

"Jing, are you a ghost?" Rett asked quietly, but smiled, while the young master was visibly shaken, since in his mind, there had been another hope.

"Jing is the name I use when I'm human. Since you call me Jing, then I'm human right now," I finally finished the last bite of my bread and stood up, ready to go upstairs.

"If I try to probe your heart again, what will you throw at me?" Rett suddenly asked with a smile.

"What will I throw? Would you care?" I stopped, but didn't turn around.

"No," he thought for a moment before answering.

"Then don't throw anything." I sighed lightly.

"Are you not afraid that I will enter your heart?"

"Hmph! What's so scary about it? My heart might be empty, or it might be a hell of a thousand layers, or it could be a peaceful paradise. If you dare to enter, then try it. But I'll warn you first, in my heart, you'll be just an ant. Life and death will be at my whim, and I'll crush you just as I please." After saying this, I took a step and walked upstairs, leaving the shocked humans behind, with one of them not being a normal human either.
