**Chapter 10: The Swarm of Betrayal**
The victory at the Plaza of Lights had left a fragile trail of hope. In the days that followed, the resistance had gained new recruits—among them an enigmatic man who called himself **Blight Bug**. Wearing a patched overcoat and a rusty respirator mask, he had arrived at the hideout with an army of insects crawling in his wake.
"I can feel the rot of this city through them," he whispered, raising his hand as metallic beetles (the result of Neo-Light's genetic pollution) formed a 3D map of the Industrial District. "And I can *destroy* it by the same means."
Lia had hesitated, but Blight Bug's insects had proven their worth. Cyborg cockroaches disabled security systems. Glass-winged moths poisoned water tanks used by the Elite Guard. Even Arthur, always skeptical, admitted:
"The guy is strange, but useful."
Igor, however, watched in silence. "He smiles too much for someone who has lost everything," he commented one night, sharpening a blade.

**Three days later.**
The mission was simple: invade a freight train carrying weapons for the Hero League. Blight Bug led the attack, his insects eating away at the steel gates while the resistance ambushed the guards.
"Advance!" Lia shouted, using a metal plate as a shield against the gunfire.
It was then that the crickets began to sing.
A high-pitched, dissonant sound echoed through the train. Blight Bug's insects, previously controlled, turned against the resistance. Giant cockroaches attacked Sofia, immobilizing her. Mechanical bees surrounded Arthur, forcing him to create panicked holograms.
— **Blight Bug!** — Lia roared, dodging a jaguar beetle. — What are you doing?!
The man laughed, the mask distorting his voice into something metallic. — Fulfilling my *true* mission, "Leader".
Igor jumped in front of Lia, his knives gleaming. — *Run!*
But Blight Bug snapped his fingers. A swarm of black wasps dove at Igor, injecting a toxin that made him fall to his knees.
— *No!* — Lia advanced, but the insects formed an insurmountable wall.
Blight Bug lifted Igor by the neck, his body convulsing. — The Steel Gods paid well for a *biological specification*. Your strategist DNA... will come in handy. — With a gesture, carrier ants dragged Igor into the shadows.
— **You will die for this!** — Arthur shouted, but Blight Bug was already disappearing, swept away by a river of insects.

In the Steel Gods' headquarters—a titanium tower above the toxic clouds—Blight Bug knelt before figures shrouded in industrial fog. Igor's body lay on a surgical table, surrounded by tubes and machines.
"The test subject is ready," a synthesized God announced. "Project Phoenix Reborn will begin."
Blight Bug smiled. His true employer was not the Hero League, but the tycoons who wished to *overcome* humanity. Igor would be dismantled, transformed into a biomechanical weapon—a leader for an army of obedient *human-insects*.
"The resistance believes they have overthrown a regime," Blight Bug whispered, petting a steel spider hovering over Igor. "But they have only traded one nightmare for another."

Back at the hideout, Lia stared at the void left by Igor. Sofia typed furiously, tracking the signs of the stolen body. Artur, without holograms or jokes, broke the silence:
— He knew. Igor always suspected that damn guy...
Lia closed her eyes, feeling the metal around her vibrate with passion. — We're not going to bury him. We're going to *rescue* him. — She raised the screwdriver that had belonged to her father. — And then, we'll burn every last one of these Gods.
Outside, the acid rain dissolved a poster of Captain Virtue. In its place, someone had graffitied:
**"INSECTS ONLY REIGN WHERE THE LIGHT FAILS."**
The war was entering a new phase — and Blight Bug was just the first warning.
