I stared intently at Tiernan, waiting for him to deliver the final verdict on our relationship.
Tiernan was stunned for a moment, and after a period of silence, he answered me dejectedly.
"If you're sick, you get treatment. What else can we do?"
"But Lacey... I want a child... If you have your uterus removed, you won't be able to have one anymore..."
His implication was so obvious. After loving him for so many years, how could I not understand?
The hand resting on my belly slowly fell away, and I softly said "I understand" before fleeing in panic.
I buried my head in the blanket and cried uncontrollably.
It turns out that a Scarlett and an imaginary illness were all it took to see the true heart of the person lying beside me.
All these years, I had ultimately overestimated my relationship with Tiernan.
"Lacey, Lacey, what's wrong?"
"When you have time, pack your things and go to the hospital as soon as possible."
Tiernan's voice came through the blanket, muffled in my ears, while Scarlett continued to sow discord behind him.
"Tiernan, sweetie, if you ask me, I think you're just too kind-hearted."Lacey's illness is because of other men, she should go to whoever got her pregnant for an abortion."
"What's the point of mooching off you like some sucker?"
After the sound of rustling fabric, Tiernan's hand stopped as he was about to pull back my blanket.
"Lacey... if you don't dare say it, just give me their contact info..."
His words clearly showed he agreed with Scarlett's claim.
Anger surged through me, and I found strength from somewhere.
I got up and threw everything around me at him, then grabbed Scarlett's collar, reaching past Tiernan.
"You keep going on about abortion this and that, did you personally see me with other men?"
"Besides, how are you so sure I'm the sick one?"
"What if it's actually you? Aren't you afraid all the things you've said today will come back to bite you?"
If Scarlett keeps being so stubborn, she'll end up a dead woman walking sooner or later.
I didn't want to bother with her too much originally.
But she's just jumping around stirring up trouble.
Even now, hearing my questions, she's still rolling her eyes dismissively.
"I keep myself pure, I would never casually sleep with other men, unlike you..."Scarlett broke out in a cold sweat and turned pale halfway through her sentence.
I realized what was happening and let go of her, standing aside to coldly observe.
Tiernan, however, had already pushed me away and rushed over, asking with concern all over his face, "Scarlett, what's wrong?"
"Hang in there, I'll take you to the hospital."
He scooped Scarlett up from the ground and dashed towards the door.
After taking a few steps, he noticed I wasn't moving and roared with red eyes, "Lacey, what the hell are you standing there for?"
"Hurry up and get the car, arrange a bed, and remember to find the best doctor."
After issuing a series of commands, Tiernan rushed out the door first.
But I had already done everything I could, and Scarlett's current state was the result of her own disbelief.
I didn't follow them out. Instead, I took out my suitcase and slowly began packing my things.
When Tiernan impatiently called to hurry me up, I coldly told him, "Let's get a divorce."
