Chapter 53 — Like a Magic Trick

❖ ❖ ❖

With the miasma wounds healed and the deep injuries returned to their previous state, the student places his hand on his face and wipes away some of the sweat that drips down onto his shirt.

— Man... Finally done. That took longer than I thought.

Due to the miasma completely enveloping the man's body, the healing ability that would easily cure any bruise or physical damage didn't have the expected effect, and it took much longer to complete.

If it were a normal person using this type of power, their mana would likely be drained, and they would suffer from temporary exhaustion due to constant use.

However, with Infinite Mana, there were no side effects, — only the time it took, which was stretched out by using it for several minutes.

— Seriously, man, that smelly black goo is really annoying... Miasma, right?

— It took forever to get rid of this stuff. At first, I even thought it would just go away, because there was no effect when I first used my ability. I really hope I don't have to deal with this in the future, man... what a pain.

— Anyway, now I just need to let the others waiting outside know... hehe. Can't wait to see their faces. What a useful ability, he finally comments with a small smile on his face, still in disbelief over his own power.

With that, he wipes the rest of the sweat from his face and walks towards the room's door. Outside, he turns to Círdan, who is sitting on a bench with an expression of fear and anxiety.

The elf's assistants don't seem stable either, their faces showing sadness from seeing their master so down due to how the situation turned out.

Still from a distance, the boy approaches the bench and waves to Círdan, telling him that he had finished the procedure and that the patient would probably be stable for the next few days.

At first, Círdan doesn't believe the statement and just unconsciously thanks the boy, then goes to his room, followed by his assistants, to check what happened and see what had really occurred.

When he enters the room, the first thing his eyes fall on is a man who previously emanated negative energy, now peacefully sleeping with a serene expression. As he gets closer, the elf notices that all the injuries and bruises have been healed. The miasma is no longer present, and all the blood that had soaked the floor and the sheets is gone.

The area on the abdomen that had once been a massive wound caused by a beast's claw, exposing part of the intestines and internal organs, had also been completely restored.

— How is this possible? Are they messing with me? comments a nearby elf, pale-faced and with a frightened look.

— He was dead, dead! I'm seeing things, right? Right? she adds, holding her face in her hands.

— He even managed to restore his skin, but how?! You're telling me this isn't a healing ability? asks another elf, his face full of disbelief.

After noticing the general commotion from the assistants, Círdan also freezes, unable to believe what he's really seeing; however, he doesn't let the feeling show, and moments later murmurs quietly by the side of the bed.

— Rei... Who are you really?

...

[Late Afternoon]

After Círdan entered the room, Rei walks over to Kazuki, who is also waiting for him at the end of the hallway in that same place.

Noticing that the beast-man is lost in thought and hasn't noticed his approach, Rei takes advantage of the situation to run up to him and unexpectedly hug him.

— R-Rei? Kazuki says hesitantly, not understanding the boy's behavior.

— What's up, can't I hug you? Rei simply responds, with a small smile on his face.

In response, Kazuki starts blushing and notices that the people passing by in the hallway are constantly looking at them.

— E-Err... People are staring, Rei...

— Let them look.

With that, Rei releases the beast-man and quickly says: You know that guy? I managed to heal him. It wasn't that hard, honestly, I didn't expect this ability to be so good.

— I'm glad you managed to do it, I wouldn't expect anything less from you. That's really badass, Kazuki replies.

"Rei is really unpredictable, I can never completely tell what he's thinking... but whenever I'm near him, time seems to pass quickly... His smile is so refreshing, I feel good with that."

Kazuki thinks, unable to look away.

— Do you realize how insane this is? It only took me a few minutes to heal a guy in critical condition, this is crazy, he says excitedly.

— It was something so simple, but it's kind of scary… Do you have any idea how it feels to heal someone who was about to die? he adds.

— …

— In my old world, people would spend almost all their money just to get treatment for some illness... like my sister, he says quickly, his face becoming a bit depressed as he remembers it.

As he's speaking, an elf approaches Rei and Kazuki.

— You're Reiji, right?

— Yes, did something happen?

— Lord Círdan would like to see you.
