The kingdom of Solis Aevum was a vast and rich land inhabited by humans and other creatures alike, but they never saw eye to eye and quarreled continuously. That was until 1347 when the tensions rose too high to quell, culminating in all-out war.
A war that lasted 120 whole years. Thus in 1467, a treaty was signed between the two major parties that played a role in the conflict. Namely, humans and vampires.
As a result, the kingdom was split into two halves: Lustris for humans and Umbraria where vampires and the rest of the creatures lived.
- The treaty stipulated that humans could cross freely to Umbraria as long as they don't bear the royal family's crest and vice versa for nightwalkers. Meaning, no soldiers on duty from either side were permitted to cross over.
- The treaty guaranteed no safety for anyone that crossed the border. Everyone was fair game on foreign land. The agreement also said that any member from any race that committed a crime beyond their borders were to be judged and sentenced based on the laws of the land they stood upon. For example, if a vampire committed a crime on human soil they were to be tried in human court and Vampires back in Umbraria were not to interfere under any circumstances.
- Humans were to choose and send tributes from the lower class for vampires to feed upon in exchange for protection against the neighboring kingdoms as well as magical artifacts and vampire blood for its healing abilities.
Our story, however, begins in 1679 or 212 years after the end of the great war.
