Chapter 18: Encirclement and Counter-Attack
"So this is the renowned Professor X? He looks much younger than in the movies," George thought to himself as he watched Wolverine push Professor X out from the water tank.
Come to think of it, if according to the movies it's now 2029, Professor X would be ninety-seven years old, but in reality it's 2009, making Professor X seventy-seven years old.
"If Professor X could regain his abilities, our safety would be guaranteed. Even if he couldn't fully recover his powers, just restoring his normal consciousness would help these children better develop their abilities."
At this moment, he decided that when he goes to Hogwarts to study magic in the future, he would also spend more time on healing magic.
If modern technology can't heal Professor X, then he would try using magical methods for treatment.
You know, Professor X is the most powerful telepath in the world.
He can read others' thoughts and memories without physical contact, directly strip and control others' minds while simultaneously controlling their actions through his telepathic abilities.
If equipped with a cerebral enhancement machine, he could even kill all ordinary humans and mutants on Earth.
"New species, new mutants, good, good, good. Logan, you must help them, they need you!"
Professor X looked at the children standing before him, especially the little wolf girl Laura, and two streams of tears flowed down his face involuntarily.
He tightly grasped Wolverine's hand:
"Wait a little longer, wait a little longer, you will have a new family. Don't give up on yourself, everything will get better."
"Then promise me, you won't give up either. They need your guidance just as you once guided us."
Wolverine's gaze slowly grew more determined, as if he had once again become the fearless warrior he once was.
At this moment, George walked over:
"We can't delay. The people from the experimental facility won't let us go so easily. We can't stay here too long.
Now we'll split into two groups. Logan and I will go to New York to find a way to save Tony Stark.
Professor, Caliban, Gabriela, and Rictor, you take the children to the North Dakota border and wait for our message.
Be aware, the experimental facility has created a Logan clone. Caliban, you need to constantly monitor for any new mutants approaching. If you detect anything, you must relocate immediately."
"A Logan clone?"
Caliban's pupils contracted, then he pointed toward the south:
"If my senses are correct, the one you mentioned is coming."
Following Caliban's finger, in the distance on the empty land, a long convoy of vehicles gradually appeared.
George narrowed his eyes:
"Faster than I expected. Good, this is the perfect opportunity to deal with them. Otherwise, they'll be trouble later."
He had anticipated the pursuit from the experimental facility. With Alkali-Transigen's financial resources and position, obtaining surveillance through local agencies wasn't difficult.
Their large truck made it impossible to hide their trail.
Previously, being caught would have been problematic because even though he could use magnetism to alter bullet trajectories and become a super marksman, that would be useless against X-24.
When the bullets were gone, it would be his death.
But now things were different. It wasn't that Wolverine could defeat X-24, but rather that he knew Wolverine had an adamantium bullet, originally kept for suicide, which could be perfect for dealing with X-24.
If they killed X-24, the experimental facility wouldn't pose a major threat for a while. Creating another Wolverine clone wouldn't happen quickly.
This way, when they went to rescue Tony Stark, they wouldn't have to worry about the children facing threats from the experimental facility.
And if there was a chance to kill Zander Rice, that would be even more perfect.
"I have a plan."
Turning to Wolverine, he quickly explained his strategy.
Meanwhile, Commander Donald, sitting in an armored Jeep, was also deploying his strategy over the radio.
"In a moment, surround the warehouse completely. Don't let anyone escape.
Shoot to kill if there's any movement, especially Experiment Subject 757."
Following the boss's orders, he had mobilized all available contacts, quickly tracking the truck and discovering that the escaped mutants had made contact with Wolverine, who was living in seclusion in El Paso.
In fact, they had known about Wolverine and the Professor's whereabouts for some time.
The reason they hadn't hunted them down like the other mutants was because the boss said letting them live in this miserable state was more tormenting than killing them.
But now that the escaped mutant children had joined Wolverine and his group, things became more complicated.
So with the boss's approval, they brought X-24 just in case.
Originally, the boss wanted to come personally to see X-24's combat effectiveness, but he had been injured in the previous lab explosion and, concerned about Subject 757's marksmanship, stayed back at the facility.
The convoy consisted of over twenty vehicles that surrounded the dilapidated warehouse. Each vehicle was filled with heavily armed men wearing bulletproof vests. After disembarking, they took up various firing positions, totaling nearly a hundred men.
And at a certain distance from the warehouse, on top of a bus-sized armored vehicle, a sniper was hidden. Inside the vehicle was their trump card, X-24.
"I never expected to meet you this way, Wolverine, my former idol. Hand over those children, and I won't disturb the peaceful life of you and that old man."
Donald removed his sunglasses and studied Wolverine, who stood alone at the warehouse entrance, his tone full of mockery.
His demeanor showed he clearly didn't take the once-legendary Wolverine seriously at all.
"I'm sorry, I don't know what you're talking about. This is private property, please leave."
Wolverine, remembering George's strategy to buy time, resisted the urge to impale this bastard with his claws and patiently tried to reason with him.
Donald pointed to the truck at the entrance:
"You disappoint me. The price of lying to me might be more than you can bear."
"I don't know whose truck that is. There's really no one here that you're looking for."
Wolverine continued to deny.
Donald gave a signal to his men behind him, and more than twenty armed men immediately rushed into the warehouse.
About five minutes later, they came out and shook their heads at Donald.
Seeing this, Donald raised an eyebrow, looked around, and finally smiled as he fixed his gaze on the abandoned water tank next to the warehouse.
"What a good idea. I guess they must be there, including that old fellow."
"It's just an ordinary water tank. The people you're looking for really aren't here."
Wolverine's expression changed as he slowly slipped one hand into his pocket.
Donald ignored Wolverine and directly signaled his men to search the water tank.
At that moment, Wolverine quickly pulled a vial of serum from his pocket and rapidly injected it into his arm.
