Chapter 20: Thanks for the Sniper Rifle, Buddy!

Chapter 20: Thanks for the Sniper Rifle, Buddy!

While George was dodging X-24's attacks in a somewhat panicked manner, making his way towards the bus, X-23 had already sprinted to the front of the bus.

The four soldiers who were recording noticed X-23 approaching and immediately pulled out their submachine guns, unleashing a barrage of bullets at her.

X-23, with her extensive combat experience, moved like a true wolf, flipping and jumping to avoid most of the bullets aimed at her vital spots. She endured the pain from the remaining bullets and fiercely pounced on the four soldiers.

Having been trained in various killing techniques since childhood, she was accustomed to battles like this.

The sniper on top of the bus, hearing the commotion below, sensed something was wrong. He quickly abandoned his task of assisting in sniping Wolverine at the factory and turned his rifle towards X-23 below.

Just as X-23 had taken down two soldiers, she was hit in the chest by a sniper shot.

This shot was different from the others—its immense force sent her flying, causing her to let out a scream of pain.

Seizing the opportunity, the remaining two soldiers rushed forward and pinned X-23's arms and legs, preventing her from getting up.

Despite her impressive physical abilities and combat skills, X-23 was still a child. In terms of pure strength, she was no match for adults, especially these two muscular men.

No matter how hard she struggled, she couldn't break free.

"I wonder if you can still recover after I blow your head off."

The sniper, glancing over and seeing Subject 757 fleeing in disarray under X-24's attacks, assumed he wouldn't last much longer. A cruel smile appeared on his face as he aimed his rifle at X-23's head, pinned to the ground.

He didn't believe X-23 could survive a sniper shot to the head. If one shot didn't kill her, he'd fire two, three—and if she still didn't die, hearing her scream under his gunfire would be a pleasure in itself.

"It's about time!"

At this moment, George noticed that X-23 had been subdued. Calculating the distance, he knew it was time to act.

Using his full power, he focused his abilities on X-24's ankle, causing him to stumble and miss his attack. Seizing the opportunity, George didn't continue running but instead pulled out a pistol he had hidden in his chest.

Flipping off the safety, he pressed the gun against X-24's temple:

"Game over!"

"Bang!"

A gunshot rang out as the first Adamantium bullet in the chamber shot through the barrel and into X-24's head, killing him instantly.

Hearing the gunshot, the sniper, who had been about to blow X-23's head off, instinctively looked up towards Subject 757. When he saw X-24 fall motionless, his face turned pale.

He quickly turned his rifle back towards George, who was now sprinting towards him.

"How did this happen?"

However, he soon realized that his sniper rifle was shaking uncontrollably, even threatening to fly out of his hands. No matter how hard he tried to steady it, the shaking only grew worse.

With the rifle shaking so violently, how could he aim accurately? He managed to fire a few shots, but all of them missed.

"Bang! Bang!"

While remotely controlling the sniper rifle's shaking and dodging the sniper shots with an S-shaped run, George reached the effective range of his pistol and fired two shots at the two men pinning X-23.

The two men were shot in the head and fell to the ground. X-23, now free, dug her claws into the bus and quickly climbed to the roof, pouncing on the sniper.

She held a grudge—the sniper had shot her, causing her immense pain, and she would make sure he felt the same.

"Commander, X-24 has been killed. Be careful of X-23 and Subject 757—ahhh!"

As X-23 lunged at him, the sniper knew he was doomed. He quickly reported to Commander Donald via walkie-talkie, but before he could finish, his chest was pierced.

George arrived at the bus and saw X-23, covered in blood, dragging the sniper's body down from the roof. He couldn't help but grimace.

"It's okay now. Leave the rest to me."

He walked over, patted X-23's head, and picked her up. Grabbing the submachine guns and the sniper rifle from the four soldiers, he made his way to the driver's seat of the bus.

If it weren't for the exceptional circumstances, he wouldn't have wanted a child like X-23 to be involved in such a brutal fight.

Placing X-23 in the passenger seat, he examined the sniper rifle and couldn't help but sigh:

"Thanks for the sniper rifle, buddy!"

His current abilities weren't enough to alter the trajectory of a sniper bullet, but that didn't mean he couldn't in the future.

Imagine a sniper rifle with a range of over two thousand meters, capable of hitting every shot and even curving bullets—what a powerful weapon that would be.

Starting the bus, he drove straight towards the factory. Once within range of his abilities, he shattered the front windshield and set up the four submachine guns, unleashing a barrage of bullets that curved through the air.

Inside the factory, Donald looked at Wolverine, who was kneeling on the ground, panting heavily, and sneered:

"The drug's worn off, hasn't it? Let's see how long you can last.

To be honest, your backup—Subject 757 and X-23—will probably be captured by my men soon. Then we'll send you all off together!"

But as soon as he finished speaking, he heard the sniper's report and scream over the walkie-talkie.

Wolverine burst into laughter and, with his strong willpower, stood up again:

"Looks like we'll be the ones sending you off!"

"Commander, it's bad! The bus is charging towards the factory, and we can't stop it!"

A squad leader rushed into the factory.

"You... This isn't over. Retreat!"

Seeing Wolverine, who still seemed to have some fight left, and hearing the intense gunfire and screams outside, Donald gritted his teeth and fled with his remaining twenty or so men.

Once Donald had fled, Wolverine could no longer hold on and collapsed to the ground.

Moments later, a bus crashed through the factory doors and came to a stop in front of Wolverine.

The doors opened, and George and X-23 jumped out.

"Are you okay, Logan?"

"Not dead yet. Those bastards—if this were twenty years ago, none of them would've escaped."

Wolverine struggled to his feet.

"Don't swear in front of the kids. But Logan, your performance just now was no worse than twenty years ago."

Professor X, in his wheelchair, emerged from the water tank with the others.

George spoke up:

"Although we've driven them off for now, this place isn't safe. Let's stick to the plan—everyone, gather your things, and we'll split into two groups and leave immediately."

"George, we've decided not to go to Canada. The Professor is right—if we try to make it by Friday, it's too tight, and it's too dangerous for you all.

We can't be that selfish."

Suddenly, Gabriela stepped forward and spoke to George.
