Chapter 39: Codename, Death!
"The final request, for all the things I have done for the family, spare the lives of my wife and daughter, and let my brothers continue to serve the family."
Having done so much for the family over the years, Leon knew that what Cheber was talking about wasn't impossible. His subordinates had indeed always hoped that he could become the head of the Cheber family and had repeatedly persuaded him to change the Cheber family into the Leon family.
At this moment, Leon no longer complained. He simply knelt in front of Cheber, lowered his head, and pleaded.
However, Cheber coldly shook his head again:
"Leon, I once heard a saying from a Chinese man I killed. I've always thought it made a lot of sense. It goes: 'If you don't uproot the weeds, they will grow back with the spring breeze.' If my son is to inherit the legacy I've built, there cannot be any potential threat. You must understand the good intentions of a father."
"I will kill you!"
Leon used all his strength and suddenly lunged at Cheber. However, halfway through, he was kicked away by the burly man beside Cheber.
Normally, he wouldn't be so weak, but now he was already badly injured.
"Leon, stop struggling. Go peacefully. I will personally take care of your wife and daughter. Maybe you will meet them in heaven... Oh, no, people like us are bound to go to hell after we die, so perhaps you won't meet them again."
The burly man stepped forward, pinning Leon to the ground. With a malicious grin, he pulled out a handgun and aimed it at Leon's head.
Leon, lying on the ground, angrily yelled, "Cheber, I regret not listening to my brothers. If there really is a hell, I will crawl out of it and bring you and your son down with me. If there are demons in hell, I will offer my soul in exchange to break out and take my revenge!"
"Unfortunately, there is no hell in this world, nor any demons. Otherwise, I would have died countless times by now, considering how much blood is on my hands. Reality is so cruel. Only people like me can enjoy wealth and status, and my children will inherit my wealth and status."
Cheber didn't care at all about Leon's curse. He had heard such words too many times.
Just then, an intrigued voice suddenly came from above, from the water tank on the rooftop: "I am not a demon, nor do I want your soul, but if you're willing to cooperate with me, I would be willing to help you achieve your wish."
Everyone turned to look at the top of the water tank. They saw a mysterious man, wearing a death mask and a long robe, standing there.
"Where did this guy come from? Kill him!"
Cheber's eyes narrowed, and he immediately gave the order.
The dozen or so subordinates standing beside him quickly drew their guns and aimed them at the mysterious man, preparing to kill him on the spot.
However, just as they aimed, their guns suddenly slipped from their hands, as if manipulated by an invisible force. They floated in the air, pointing directly at their foreheads, with the bullets automatically chambered.
"I suggest you don't make any moves, or I can't guarantee that the guns won't go off."
George stepped down from the rooftop water tank, as if walking on air, and approached Leon, who was lying on the ground unable to rise. He looked down at him from above.
"Your answer?"
Nice, Leon is currently the agent he feels is the best choice.
Once he helps Leon take over the Cheber family, Leon will become one of the most powerful figures in the underground world of the Bronx, fully qualified to buy Stark's stocks without suspicion. Moreover, if he eliminates the other twelve families, Leon can openly assimilate them. By then, with such a large territory under his control, Leon will have no reason to run away with his wife and daughter, allowing for long-term cooperation. In the future, he can help gather intelligence and assist in dealing with the pursuit of the Aclis Corporation.
He had always thought that X Professor's approach was unwise. Why separate mutants from humans and even give them a new name? Isn't that just making trouble for the entire human race? Anyway, humans have already forgotten the term "mutant," so let them forget it completely. They are just humans with special abilities and can naturally cooperate with regular humans to deal with evil scientists and terrorists.
Leon stared at the unbelievable scene on the rooftop for two seconds, then his gaze hardened, and he replied resolutely:
"As long as you can save my family and brothers, then my life is yours!"
"I don't need your life, just need you to do some things for me in the future."
George snapped his fingers, and all the floating guns fired simultaneously. Cheber's subordinates fell without resistance, collapsing onto the rooftop.
"Sir, whatever you need me to do, I can do it. You don't need to cooperate with a loser."
The only surviving Cheber, seeing his men all killed, broke into a cold sweat, sitting in his wheelchair. He attempted to convince George to spare him.
However, George simply smiled and shook his head:
"No, you're too old."
Having someone like Cheber as an agent might only last two or three years before he'd be dead. Finding a new one would be too troublesome, and his character wasn't as reliable as Leon's.
"You handle it yourself."
A razor-thin blade flew out from George's pocket, easily cutting the ropes binding Leon's hands.
Leon stood up, picked up the handgun of the burly man on the ground, and walked up to Cheber. Without letting him say a word of pleading, he shot him in the head, ending his life instantly.
"Thank you, how should I address you?"
Looking at Cheber's body lying in a pool of blood, Leon fell silent for five seconds, then turned to George and sincerely thanked him.
If it weren't for George's intervention, he would have died today, along with his wife, daughter, and those brothers who fought with him. Therefore, his thanks were heartfelt.
"No need to thank me. I saved you for my own purposes. We have a cooperative relationship. As for my name, it's not convenient for me to tell you."
George touched the mask on his face and waved his hand.
The farmer and the snake, repaying kindness with hatred, was not an uncommon occurrence. He didn't believe that saving the other person once would make them loyally serve him forever. Moreover, given the other person's background and experiences, he could never be a good guy.
"Then I'll call you Death God. What do you need me to do?"
Leon glanced at George's mask and asked. He was a smart man and understood what George was implying.
In fact, with George's amazing abilities earlier, and his hidden identity, Leon had his doubts in his mind.
"Up to you. We don't need anything right now, but when I do, I will come to find you."
George pointed at the iron gate at the entrance of the rooftop:
"Your boss's men should be reacting soon. We need to leave here first."
"They're already here!"
Leon's expression changed. He heard the sound of many footsteps coming from the rooftop staircase.
His physical condition was terrible. Even with a gun in hand, he couldn't possibly deal with so many people.
So he could only turn to George.
Right now, only George, with his miraculous abilities, could save him.
