Chapter 333: The Appearance of the Thunder Card

Chapter 333: The Appearance of the Thunder Card

After helping Li Xiaolang complete the enrollment procedures, George said to Li Xiaolang's new homeroom teacher:

"Mr. Terada Yoshiyuki, I'll be entrusting Xiaolang to your care."

"You're too kind, sir!"

Terada Yoshiyuki quickly bowed.

The elder before him was over ninety years old—a true senior.

George nodded, then spoke a few words to Xiaolang before leaving the school and instantly teleporting back to his villa.

Being old had its advantages—at the very least, anyone with a bit of manners would greet him respectfully upon seeing him.

A little after 2:00 PM, while George was studying Daoist techniques, he was suddenly startled by the sound of thunder outside the window.

"This sounds like rain... no, something's not right. That's not ordinary thunder!"

Walking to the window, he could clearly sense an unusually active magical force stirring within the clouds above the town.

"Could it be the Thunder Card?"

A thought immediately formed in his mind.

"If it's the Thunder Card, I might as well seize it first."

As for the other Clow Cards, since he hadn't yet fully studied the Li Family's Daoist arts, researching them would be slow even if he had them—he could put them on hold for now.

But the Thunder Card was different.

Because he had already come into contact with the essence of thunder, the Li Family's lightning techniques weren't difficult for him to learn. In just a few days, he could master them completely.

That meant he was qualified to study the Thunder Card.

If the Thunder Card truly contained this world's interpretation of the essence of thunder, then deciphering it would surely deepen his understanding of thunder's nature.

A deeper mastery of thunder wouldn't only increase the power of all his thunder techniques, but would also accelerate his advancement from a Level 5 ability user to Level 6.

"School's already out—perfect!"

At that moment, he spotted Li Xiaolang, backpack slung over his shoulders, already arriving at the villa's gate.

Elementary school ended early here. If there weren't any extracurricular activities, classes would be over by 2:00 PM.

In a flash, he appeared beside Li Xiaolang.

"Ancestor?!"

Seeing George suddenly appear beside him, Li Xiaolang was startled.

"The thunderclouds above don't seem right—it could be a Clow Card. Let's check it out."

George grabbed Li Xiaolang, spread the wings on his back, and quickly flew toward the area in the clouds where the magic was most active.

"A Clow Card!"

The moment Li Xiaolang heard a Clow Card had appeared, he was instantly energized.

He didn't even bother to ask why the ancestor could fly—he simply assumed it was because the old man had attained enlightenment.

Still, wasn't he supposed to ride the clouds and mist instead of growing wings?

But that didn't matter—sealing the Clow Card came first.

"It's the Thunder Card!"

Once they reached the cloud layer and saw the thunder beast unleashing lightning from within, Li Xiaolang immediately recognized it as the Thunder Card, which represented thunder among the Clow Cards.

The thunder beast, upon noticing George and Li Xiaolang, grew violent and opened its mouth to fire a bolt of lightning at them.

"As expected, without Clow Reed's blessing, the Clow Cards' power is limited."

George showed no fear in the face of the incoming lightning—he could sense its intensity and knew it wasn't even as strong as the lightning he could generate through his own supernatural powers.

The Clow Cards were magical artifacts that embodied the magical essence of this world, but to unleash their full power, they required sufficient magical energy input.

It was like having a high-tech energy gun that could destroy an entire planet with one shot—but its power depended entirely on how much energy you pumped into it.

If you injected little energy, it could only blow up small rocks. With a full charge, it could obliterate an entire planet.

The Thunder Card was currently drawing only a tiny bit of residual magical energy left behind after Clow Reed's death. Naturally, its power was limited.

George suspected this was exactly what Clow Reed had intended.

By leaving little magic in the cards, their power remained small, making it possible for Sakura to capture them. If he had left too much, how could Sakura possibly deal with them?

Furthermore, the Clow Cards also served to absorb and adjust the excess magic within Sakura's body. If they already contained too much magic, they wouldn't absorb hers.

"Huh, they're here too."

At that moment, George noticed something else.

He saw Sakura and Tomoyo walking through the park directly beneath them. Hearing the thunder overhead, they assumed it was going to rain and hid under the penguin slide in the park.

His eyes flickered with a new idea.

Instead of waving away the thunder beast's attack, George began dodging its bolts, weaving left and right through the sky.

"Xiaolang, I'll hold it off. You think about how to seal this Clow Card."

He accelerated toward the park below, dropped off Li Xiaolang, and then soared back into the sky, continuing his game of tag with the thunder beast.

"Li-kun, what are you doing here?"

Down below, Sakura and Tomoyo, who spotted Li Xiaolang, emerged from beneath the penguin slide.

"You're here too? Haven't you noticed the weather's strange today? It's the work of a Clow Card!"

Xiaolang took out his jade orb and transformed it into a talisman sword, pointing to the thunder beast chasing George in the sky.

"It really is a Clow Card!"

Sakura immediately drew out her bird-head key.

"Key that hides the powers of darkness, reveal your true form before me. By our contract, Sakura commands you—Release!"

Just like the night before, the bird-head key transformed into the bird-head staff.

"Do you have the Fly Card among the Clow Cards you've sealed?"

Li Xiaolang asked Sakura with a frown.

The ancestor and the thunder beast were both high in the clouds, but he couldn't fly—he had no way to help.

Though reluctant, he had to ask Sakura, since he remembered that one of the Clow Cards granted the ability to fly.

"I do. The second one I sealed was the Fly Card."

Sakura nodded quickly and pulled out the Fly Card.

"Tomoyo, wait for me down here."

After a word to Tomoyo, she tapped the Fly Card with her bird-head staff. Immediately, a pair of pure white wings sprouted from the staff.

"Quick, hop on!"

"Alright, thank you."

Li Xiaolang blushed slightly as he looked at Sakura riding the staff, but climbed on as well.

However, he didn't wrap his arms around her waist—instead, he gripped the staff with one hand to steady himself.

"What a shame—I didn't bring my camera or prepare suitable costumes."

Watching Sakura fly off with Xiaolang, Tomoyo wore a look of deep regret.

"As expected, they're here."

In the sky, George saw Xiaolang and Sakura riding the bird-head staff as they flew up, and he stopped dodging the thunder beast's attacks. With a wave of his hand, he deflected the incoming lightning bolts.

The direction he deflected them in just so happened to be where Sakura and Xiaolang were. Though he calculated it so they wouldn't actually be hit—it was just to give them a little scare.
