Chapter Fourteen

That evening, I arrived at Briana's, and we started getting ready for Jenny's party. I pulled out my ripped black jeans, black boots, and a red crop top. Briana gasped, running over to my clothes.

"Damn, girl, you're gonna look sexy tonight—Oliver wishes he could get with you."

Briana scoffed, crossing her arms and giving me a look. I tightened my lips, briefly closing my eyes. I'm supposed to be forgetting about him. Why am I excited to dress up? I shook my head, changing the subject.

"Please, can we not talk about him? He's a pain in my ass."

Briana laughed, moving to her dresser to do her makeup. "Mmm, a sexy pain in your ass."

I glared, grabbing my makeup and earrings. "You're as relentless as him."

"What can I say? I love pissing you off."

That makes two of you. What's her fascination with him? "God, once summer's over, he'll be gone, and I'll be off to college."

Briana angled her mirror, raising a brow. "Why won't you admit you like him?"

I dropped my clothes, facing her. "Because... he thinks he can get any girl, and if I fall for that, lock me up."

"Sex doesn't have to be formal, Scar. Just enjoy yourself."

Oh, yeah. That's her motto. She needs to be safer. "Sure, Bri. When should I schedule him? When Mom's in the shower? When his dad's cooking dinner? Come on."

"Where there's a will, there's a way."

I groaned, grabbing my clothes and heading to the bathroom. "We're gonna get some drinks into you and loosen you up," Briana mumbled.

In the bathroom, I set my clothes down, taking a deep breath. I don't want to go if she's interrogating me. Oliver will never be more than the son of Mom's boyfriend.

I looked in the mirror, pushing back my hair. I ran my hands over my face. I'm still wet from earlier. He is enticing.

After dressing, I fluffed my hair. When I returned to Briana's room, she turned to me. "What are you going to do if he shows up?"

"I'm going to slap you for telling him. You shouldn't have."

"I'm sorry, but he seemed interested. Besides, I love a good time."

"You're telling me."

"Hey! Don't act like you don't have fun."

As long as I'm not babysitting. My phone vibrated.

Oliver: see you tonight

He's bluffing. Would he? I shouldn't reply. I texted back.

Scarlett: no you won't.

Oliver: yes... I will

"Who is that?"

I pinched my nose, my head aching.

Oliver: Hell, I got a formal invite from your mother to tag along.

Wait... he didn't tell Mom, did he? I cursed, and Briana grabbed my wrist.

"Is that Oliver?"

I scoffed. "Are you surprised? I hate they gave him my number."

Briana laughed.

Scarlett: what the hell do you mean she invited you? Did you rat me out?

Oliver: relax

"That's Oliver?"

"Yeah." I texted back.

Scarlett: plz do me a favor and just stay away from me.

Oliver: But somehow you find your way to me. For someone who's so annoyed with me, your body says otherwise.

Scarlett: Don't listen to my body. For someone who can have 'any' girl, you seem determined to have me.

Oliver: so?

I laughed.

"What?" Briana asked.

"He's so bold. Always thinking I want him."

"Yeah, he's right."

My mouth dropped open. I need to stop complaining. It's hard when he's infuriating. I texted Oliver one last time.

Scarlett: well, you keep trying but I'm not going to sleep with you.

Oliver: :) sure.

I tossed my phone on the bed.

"You always seem more vibrant after a sparring match with Oliver."

"Really?"

"It's fun and aggravating. I know you two will have the best sex."

"Bri!"

"What? You know it's true..."

The way he touched me... it's true. Urgh. Heat rolled through me.

"Girl, you're a bad influence."

Briana stuck out her tongue. "That's why I'm fun, and you love me."

"You're not wrong."

Briana turned on music. "Let's have fun tonight! I'm ready to get drunk."

"Hell yeah! I'm so ready!"
