Breaking Through

The festival was just around the corner, and the excitement in the air was almost electric. But for me, it wasn't just about the festival anymore — it was about proving myself, about showing May that I could stand on the same stage as Rin.

"Isagi!" Kaito called, running up to me. "We've got a problem. One of the main acts just dropped out."

My stomach sank. "Which one?"

"The dance group. They were supposed to close the event."

"Great," I muttered. "What now?"

"I have an idea," May's voice broke in.

We turned to see her standing there, a determined look on her face. "Why don't we put together a performance ourselves?"

My heart skipped a beat. "You mean… us?"

She nodded. "You, me, Kaito — and anyone else willing to help. We can't let the festival end without a bang."

Kaito grinned. "I'm in."

And just like that, we had a plan.

Practices were chaotic but fun. May was surprisingly good at choreography, and even though I had two left feet, she was patient.

"No, like this," she said, stepping closer to adjust my stance. Her hands brushed against mine, and I swear my brain short-circuited.

"R-Right," I mumbled, trying to focus.

From across the room, Rin watched us, his smile a little tighter than usual.

"Looks like you're having fun," he said, walking over during a break.

"We are," I said, meeting his gaze head-on.

"I hope you're ready," he said, his voice low. "Because I'm not planning on stepping aside."

"Neither am I."

The day of the festival arrived faster than I expected. The school was alive with color and sound, and the energy was contagious.

"Isagi!" May called, running up to me. "We're up next!"

My nerves were shot, but the excitement in her eyes kept me steady.

We took the stage together, and as the music started, everything else faded away. The crowd, the competition — all I saw was her.

When it ended, the applause was deafening.

"You were amazing," May said, breathless and glowing.

"So were you," I replied.

And in that moment, with the cheers still ringing around us, I felt something shift. I wasn't just chasing after her anymore — we were standing side by side.

But I knew the battle with Rin was far from over.
