Jason is a senior in highschool.
He is making slightly above average grades, has zero friends and spends most of his time on the internet or playing games. Jason is a loser and is absolutely lazy. He doesn't like to study and barely likes to talk. He is somewhat attractive but doesn't exell at anything.
He has wasted the past four years and barely remembers anything meaningful before highschool started. He can barely remember their faces now. His mother's smile or his fathers laugh. He wants to be hard working like them. Striving for something important but without power, whats the point.
He is tired. His family is the only thing that stops him from running away or ending it all, but even then he has no energy for anything. He feels empty.
He wants to get into a school and make as much money as possible with the least amount of work, getting into accounting or the stock exchange, whatever. Today is just another day to that eventual goal.
He is sitting in math class, barely paying attention like everyone else. It's the last class of the day. He doesn't need to pay attention especially for something as easy as a life math class. Some kids were even throwing stuff around the room as the teacher talked about morgage rates and genuinely important life skills. Jason sighed when they ended up hitting him. He barely gave them a look and then put his head down.
He is used to it by now.
'I hate this school, just one more semester. I'm already 18 and when I'm done with this shit show it's straight to university. Then I can make some real money.' He thinks
Jason would already be working if it wasn't for his older brother. Kyle makes sure every day that his younger siblings focus on school. He just wishes he could find some other way.
He is tired.
"Jason! Are you with us?" The teacher called out.
He slowly raised his head, "Yes Mr. Stevens, at least physically." Some kids laughed but some kids were too afraid too. Jason always ended up in class wearing all black. With his black hair and glasses it looked like he was two seconds away from telling someone to stay home tomorrow.
"Jason, I am not going to be lenient on you just cause you make decent grades. Pay attention or stay after." Mr. Stevens said completely ignoring the richer kids that happened to be throwing literal school supplies across the room.
'Yeah of course, ignore the board member kids. Dude can barely teach without half the class falling alseep.'
The bell rings and everyone rushes out of the room. A couple kids purposefully shove Jason out of the way and call him a loser before leaving.
While everyone runs downstairs to leave, Jason walks up to the school roof. He always waited here for everyone to clear out. It was the best way to avoid more interactions and it was the only time other students didn't have an excuse to bother him.
He can work on some home work while he waited or just read some webnovels.
He looks around the roof and thinks of the first day he came up here. It had already been a year since his parents had died and left them with all their debt. Ana had gotten sick when he was had just started highschool and everything quickly went to hell. His parents got loans and their happy family fell apart. They were too poor for the medical bills and insurance sucked, and they thought they found a savior. Too bad he came with guns and was basically untouchable.
When Jason first came up here, he was going to cut his losses and show the world what these kids have done to him. Dramatic, eye catching, give it to every news source, ever talk show and destroy their political careers and images...but he couldn't give up on Ana or his big brother that stayed.
'I'll pay them back no matter what I have to do' He thought.
Jason sighes as he looks into the darkening sky.
The amber from the sun fades into a violet budding night. The fragmented light from the sun, stars and moon creates a tapestry across the sky. He feels at peace up here and wishes he could show show Ana and Kyle without the threat of his peers. He is always amazed by this view. The stars that twinkled each night. The moon that casts a bright pale light on everything it sees. He basks in it's glorly letting the time pass until he can walk home.
For a moment his depression seems to fade away, his helplessness no longer exists in the awe inspiring view around him. Maybe things would be okay in the end.
Tonight the stars seem to shine brighter.
As if the thought called upon cosmic forces. A lone star began to shine brighter and brighter. In the moment Jason can not tell if it's getting brighter of if it is getting closer and closer to him.
'Why does that look-' As the thought hit him.
So did it.
CRASH!
A bright light slammed into his head knocking him off his feet and into the other side of the roof, bending and breaking the railing. Metal scrap hung around him cutting and bruising his skin. The pain wrung through his body but his head hurt the worst.
Blood ran down his face and into his mouth. The last thing he notices before passing out was a loud scream and the taste of iron on his tongue.
