Understanding the system

Jason's morning alarm blares throughout the apartment. Every five minutes he somehow snoozes it. Every five minutes his brother gets increasingly pissed off.

"Jason, if you don't turn that off. It's Saturday, Im trying to sleep!" Kyle barges into his room half naked and Jason shoots up.

Kyle is 24 years old. He had barely graduated college when their parents died.

He wasn't the best student but he made it work and now did his best to support them through working. He was a lot bulkier than Jason, covered in tattoos and had a stronger jaw but their faces are uncannily similar.

"I'm up, I'm up. Sorry Kyle." Jason, half awake, slams on his phone turning it off. Everything from the previous day suddenly filling his mind.

'That's right? I passed out right after..'

The words come to him. The information from last night flowing through him like a vehicle for some divine providence.

"Open System." He says softly. A transparent blue window opens in front of his very eyes.

Kyle stops right before leaving, "Did you say something punk? You forget how I made your lunches last week."

"No Kyle, just tired." Kyle quickly dismisses him and closes the door behind him.

[Idle System: lv1] [Exp- 0/10]

[Time available --> 12:04:54/24:00:00]

[One slot available:---]

[Skills-Gaming: Lvl 1(what have you done with your life)]

"It's real.." Jason sits there in shock for one second. Just one second. Jason knows what this means. All the information filling his brain and the possibilities running rampant. Jason starts thinking of how to filter all this information into what is really important. He consolidates it into a few simple points.

1. The Idle System will grow the more it is used.

2. Slots can be filled with skills

3. Time is accumulated and used to grow skills (max level 5), required exp increases each level

4. The Idle system works in conjunction with life. Compounding effects.

Jason slowly starts laughing.

'It's perfect. This whole thing is perfect. School, money, everything I've ever desired. Revenge.. Eventually it could all be mine. I have a cheat system that can spawn skills without having to spend my whole life acquiring knowledge, while one person has to work on something one at a time, I can do two. The compounding effects of working at the same time as the system. I can only imagine.'

The ideas and possibilities flood his head and a twisted smile spreads across his face. For a moment everything happening in his life seems to dissapear. The sadness, the depression and the absolute helplessness seems to dissapear. For the first time in his life he has something to hold on to.

Jason has lived his life in the shadows of others. He has passed each day pretending to not exist, to barely get through and still his parents were taken from him. From his siblings. They stood up for their family and were killed because they didn't have power.

He will have power.

He promises to himself one thing. He is going to gain power, money, prestige and most of all he will make his family untouchable.

He isn't stupid. This system has it's rules and boundaries and things will take time. He knows he needs a foundation. Only then can he go after the men that killed his parents and end all this pain. Then maybe he can have a life worth living.

'I've played video games my whole life and read more webnovels than I can count. Passives are always the way to go. I need a foundational skill that can work together with the system going forward. Theoretical knowledge is necessary for any skill to be gained. I'm not some genius that can play mozart only listening to it once, but if I could read about music theory and combine that with the system, it could fill in the gaps.'

He sits still and looks at the books littering his room and laughs out loud like his sanity is slipping from him. Loud enough to fill the apartment.

"Damn it Jason!" Kyle shouts from the other room.

SMACK.

"Leave him alone." Jason can hear Ana defend him with a painful sound from the living room. Kyle starts apologizing for yelling.

Jason knows his sister is already a force to be reckoned with. However all he can think of is what he will put into his first slot. He takes some time thinking about the benefits each skill could do for him. Then it dawns on him. One that could make everything so much faster.

"System input speed reading into the first slot."

[Slot 1: Speed Reeding: Lvl 0] [Exp: 7/10]

Jason chuckles and rushes out of his room to the home computer passing his sister and brother. He is going to spend today doing one thing. Researching on how to read faster.

"Now that sleeping beauty is up. Are you going to eat?" Kyle quickly interrupts.

Kyle although rough around the edges with no sleep is as sweet as can be. He had already made everyone oatmeal with dried fruits and honey. Jason nods and sits the bowl next to him. Kyle has never seen Jason this excited before and even Ana who interacts with him the most is taken back.

"You seeing this," Kyle says to Ana. They haven't seen him smile this much since before..

She leans on her crutches before sitting on the couch, "Yeah creepy.." They have all coped in their own ways. They know it's not perfect but they still hold onto their family. This sudden change feels wrong for both of them.

It's not that Jason isn't listening. He is. He just finally has something he can do. He doesn't have to wait.

He has 6 months until this semester is over. He is going to use those 6 months and escape his mediocrity.

He will no longer be the silent, weak boy that let his parents die. He will not let Kyle protect this family by his self. It will take him a while but he will be smart, calculating and patient.

He can be patient. He is already so patient.

Jason will wait and do anything he can to change his life.

'This system will make me into a God'
