Ignorance is Death

Jason wakes up to Kyle having a long conversation with him before heading off to work. Kyle gives him a few ground rules. Jason is allowed to go to the Library still as he has been but he needs to study for his actual classes or Kyle will be driving him to school going forward.

Ana chimes in and teases him, saying that he shouldn't cheat on Ms. Gold

Jason nods in agreement while blatantly ignoring Ana's antics and heads off to the library. Jason decides that he will split his time. He will read through the physics book and spend the other time finishing his last book on programming and then read a few articles on different programs for security testing.

Jason's walk to the library is uneventful as usual. It is luckily in the opposite direction than his school and lets him not worry about Thomas and the like. Jason rounds the corner of the library to see that an event is going on. Seems some elementary school students are having a day at the library and it brings him back.

He remembers his parents chaperoning his field trip to the library and how they read stories to the other kids. They would take care of them all so easily. They seemed invincible to him back then. Jason remembers how easily he laughed then. How quickly he smiled then.

'I miss them, they would have loved seeing this and I bet they would have helped whichever author is reading to the kids today.' Jason thinks to himself as he enters the library to find rows of children talking and shouting among themselves. He quickly texts Vivian that he will be in the back today and she will see why.

Jason walks passed the screaming children and the teacher's quieting them down. The author smiles through her teeth obviously trying not to let it get to her. Jason thinks to himself that she probably was expecting older kids.

Jason quickly gets to work in a quieter corner of the library and begins reading. The physics book goes quickly as he was half way through it before everything happened. He then easily gives himself permission to start the final book on machine programming languages. A few hours pass when Vivian stops by.

"So. You got busted huh? How was this morning, 007?" Vivian asks as she sits down. "Also no kidding about sitting back here. I was not like that when I was their age."

"Yeah, let's blame Baby Melon on that. Well I had a stern talking to by my brother this morning. I have to actually study for school now and no more side projects." Jason explains as Vivian notices the incongruency in his words and actions.

"I can see you are sticking to it." Vivian jokes.

"I'm taking a break obviously." Jason mentions.

"Well I'll leave you to it. I've got a comic book to work on and don't ask me about it. Cause i'm not telling you until way later." She effortlessly teases him before starting on her own work.

"Alright I'll take it."

Jason goes through his books only stopping to chat with Vivian and eat some food. His understanding of everything reaches levels he never thought was possible but well rounded enough the system will take that basic knowledge to an expert, almost expert level. He is brimming with excitement when he sets down his last book and begins going over math formulas for physics and his pre-calculus class.

Jason memorizes all the formulas he needs by the time 4 o'clock hits. Vivian and Jason say goodbye and Jason promises they will play games again soon. It will just have to be after this whole fiasco is over with.

Jason walks up to his apartment to see Carry is already there. He makes a mental note of her car downstairs as he can finally tell which is hers. Carry is wearing a little more casual clothes. Clothes he is used to. It seems they both learned from the mistakes of yesterday. Carry is here with a new found dedication to teach her student without any.. Awkwardness. Jason is just happy he won't have to worry about his whole body burning up from accidentally peaking at his mentor.

"Hello Carry, you ready?" Jason asks as he unlocks the door.

"Are you? I hope you spent time studying, cause I will be quizzing you." Carry says sternly burying thoughts of yesterday. Luckily she is in jeans and a shirt this time. It doesn't hide her curves but at least it's not as enticing as last time.

"You will be surprised how much I got done." Jason says confidently.

They move to his room and Carry begins quizzing him on Physics, from formula applications to theory and history. He passes with flying colors, missing only a few applications that they didn't go over yesterday.

"Wow, Jason." Carry is amazed by the improvement. She knows Jason is smart but this blows past everything. "It looks like we can move on. What else are you confident in right now?"

"I've gone over history so if you want to test me on that, so I can get help with Pre-cal. I still struggle with math." Jason says.

"Okay. Let's do that." Carry pulls out another worksheet and some test reviews. Jason quickly makes his way through and after some shock from Carry at his perfect score. They start on math.

"Guess who is home!" Kyle calls out from the front of the apartment and makes his way to Jason's bedroom with Ana.

Ana squints into the room noticing no funny business and moves back to the living room after saying hi so she can work on her own homework.

"So how is it going Ms. Gold?" Kyle asks.

"Really well. Jason is picking up the course work really quickly. Physics and History seem to be already passable. We are working on math now Mr. Taylor." Carry says.

"You can call me Kyle. Thank you again for this. I'll leave you to it."

"Alright Mr. Kyle." Carry turns back to Jason and they continue on math work.

Carry has to go over problems with him a few times. Although Jason has memorized the formulas for pre-cal, knowing where to apply it is still an issue. The improved memorization doesn't affect application but with her help he starts roping it in. The last hour he gets more and more problems right.

'Is he some genius. He is improving far more than I thought. His basics are already perfect.' Carry thinks to herself.

"Well Jason it looks like we will be done with math tomorrow. I wouldn't be surprised if at this rate you would end up being the top scorer for this final tests." Carry says.

"Thanks Carry. You are helping a lot. Without you I would have taken a lot longer."

"I don't know about that. Well it's time to go. I will see you again tomorrow. Go over English. Here is the sheet we will be going over after Math." Jason walks Carry to the door and they say their goodbyes.

'Now to just wait.' Jason is grateful that Carry is helping with his studies but all he is thinking about his being able to begin hacking tomorrow. Soon his revenge will be in his hands.

Although first is dinner and his family. After a few hours he spends his time texting Vivian and Carry as the time ticks down. Jason is happy to have them as friends in his life but at a certain point he realizes he probably should make a male friend. At this point all he will have is female friends.

[It's time]

"Wow it seems you might be excited too." Jason comments on the system. Ever since Level 2 it has been odd, with more personality.

"Finally, tomorrow everything will change." Jason says. Excitement builds in him until the pain comes. Information floods his mind. Too much for him to even quantify and suddenly the idea that such a general skill allows him to learn thousands of programming languages at an ameteur level. Blood trickles down his nose and before he can even realize the pain that follows with an agonizing degree he falls asleep.

[Oh my poor host. When will you learn? You rush too much. Worry too much on petty things. There is still plenty of time. So much time until it comes.]
