Chapter 6 – Preparing for a New Life

Ethan stood by his desk, staring at his laptop screen. The past few days had been insane—from a struggling college student to inheriting a fortune beyond imagination. Yet, despite everything, he was still in his small, worn-down apartment, preparing for another ordinary day.

His phone buzzed.

James Windsor: Young Master Ethan, all assets have been successfully transferred. Vaults, properties, and accounts are now in your name. Let me know if you require anything.

Ethan exhaled. It still felt weird being addressed as "Young Master."

For now, he had decided to stay in his apartment. Moving into a mansion overnight would raise too many suspicions. He needed to keep a low profile.

Curious, he logged into his PayPal account—the only one he planned to use for daily expenses.

As the page loaded, he froze.

PayPal Balance: $7,500,000.00

Seven. Point. Five. Million.

Ethan leaned back, running a hand through his hair. Even though he knew he had inherited an empire, seeing this kind of money just sitting there felt unreal.

Out of curiosity, he transferred $500 to his personal debit card.

A second later, his phone pinged.

Transaction complete.

Ethan smirked. It's real.

For the first time in his life, money wasn't a problem.

Shoving his phone into his pocket, Ethan grabbed his bag and headed for the door.

But the moment he stepped outside—he froze.

An eviction notice was taped to his door.

FINAL NOTICE

Tenant: Ethan Cross

Rent Overdue: $1,800

Payment Due: IMMEDIATE

Failure to comply will result in forced eviction.

Ethan's stomach twisted. He had been so focused on everything else, he hadn't even realized he was behind on rent.

A sharp voice cut through the hallway. A neighbor named ken who always hated Ethan for being broke immediately spoke

"You think you can just live here for free, Ethan?"

Ethan turned.

Mrs. Gonzalez, the landlady, stood a few doors down, yelling at someone. But it wasn't at him.

It was at Mia, the girl next door.

"You can't just pay for that broke kid," Mrs. Gonzalez snapped. "This is a business, not a shelter! If I don't get the money today, he's out!"

Mia crossed her arms, glaring. "He's just late! I'll cover it if I have to—"

Ethan's fists clenched. Mia was trying to pay for him?

The irony wasn't lost on him. Just minutes ago, he had seen millions in his account. Yet to everyone else, he was still just a broke college kid.

He had more than enough to pay… but should he?

If he suddenly cleared everything without a second thought, wouldn't that raise questions?

What was he supposed to do?
