Chapter 34 – A Week of Sleep, A Lifetime of Questions
A week had passed since the twins dominated the secret realm. They were still asleep, under the care of their new maid, Scillia. However, Ella hated her the entire time, making her job unnecessarily difficult. Yet, Scillia didn't mind. In fact, she was happy to serve the twins—especially Ella.
There was something about Ella that fascinated her, though this only made Ella more disgusted. Olivia, on the other hand, didn't care—or rather, she had already fallen asleep.
Ella also tried to sleep, and as soon as they drifted off, a week would pass in the blink of an eye. It was normal for gods to experience time this way. In the God Realm, this was simply part of their nature.
During their slumber, their peaceful faces presented Scillia with an opportunity. Every day, she would carefully change their clothes, relishing the task more than she probably should. The act became something she eagerly anticipated, almost like an addiction.
So, when a week and two days had passed, and the twins finally opened their eyes—
"Young Miss, here is your meal. Please eat while it's still warm."
Scillia's voice carried a gentle warmth as she placed the food before them. Her eyes, filled with affection, lingered on Ella, who stared back in confusion.
"What the…? Why is she acting like she knows everything about me? Tsk."
Ella clicked her tongue in annoyance, but Scillia remained unbothered. She simply closed her eyes with a serene smile, gesturing for them to eat.
"Go ahead, Young Miss. Please eat."
Ella's irritation only grew. Something about Scillia felt… different. As if she had changed overnight.
She wasn't aware that she had been asleep for a week, so to her, it seemed like Scillia's demeanor had suddenly shifted.
"What's wrong, Young Miss?" Scillia asked with a soft smile.
Ella narrowed her eyes before shaking her head. "Nothing."
She turned toward Olivia, nudging her awake. "Vivi, it's time to eat. If you don't wake up, I'll eat everything myself."
Hearing this, Olivia stirred, her vision blurry as she let out a small yawn. She rubbed her sleepy eyes and mumbled drowsily—
"Mmm… What's for dinner?"
Her voice was soft—almost like a kitten half-asleep.
Ella smirked. "It's chicken. And there's milk, too."
The moment Olivia heard the word chicken, her eyes sparkled. She drooled slightly and was about to rush to the table when Scillia quickly intervened.
"Wait, Young Miss. Let me fix your clothes."
Without hesitation, Scillia adjusted Olivia's messy clothes, ran a hand through her tangled hair, and straightened everything before stepping back.
"Ah… Thank you," Olivia mumbled, still half-asleep.
Scillia smiled, pleased with the response.
Ella, watching the interaction, found herself seeing Scillia in a new light. Maybe this maid isn't so bad after all.
Even though Scillia came from a wealthy family, she didn't seem to have any ulterior motives. Just to be sure, Ella decided to consult the system.
(System, does Scillia have any intention of harming us?)
DING! ▶ She has no intention of harming the Twin Hosts. (Accuracy: 100%)
Ella's body instantly relaxed. So she really isn't a threat. That's good.
With that reassurance, Ella let her guard down. The twins ate peacefully, indulging in their meal—a sacred beast, a unique type of chicken found only in the God Realm.
An hour passed, and they were now resting on their bed.
Scillia stood by the door, watching them with a satisfied expression.
Olivia leaned against Ella's shoulder, her body slowly drifting into sleep once more. But before she fully succumbed, she mumbled—
"Eri… my shoulders are stiff. Massage them for me…"
Ella was about to comply when Scillia quickly stepped forward.
"Young Miss, please allow me to do it."
Ella shrugged. Since she had already confirmed Scillia's loyalty, there was no reason to refuse.
As Scillia massaged Olivia's back, Ella observed her carefully.
"Hm… Scillia, was it?"
"Yes, Young Miss? Is something the matter?" Scillia's tone was polite—almost too polite, like a proper maid who had been serving for years.
Ella crossed her arms. "I want to ask… what cultivation realm are you in? And how old are you?"
At this, Scillia visibly hesitated, a faint look of embarrassment flashing across her face.
"Um… Young Miss, I am currently at the Horizon Realm."
"Horizon Realm, huh?" Ella mused. "And your age?"
Scillia smiled awkwardly. "About… 521 years old. I'm still quite young, you see."
Ella's expression froze.
Young?
500 years old… and she calls that young?!
She barely managed to keep her composure. "Really? Your realm is quite low… are you telling the truth?"
Scillia tilted her head. "What do you mean, Young Miss? Being in the Horizon Realm at my age is considered an exceptional talent. It's quite rare, actually."
Ella was stunned. So that's how it is… Then that means Olivia and I are beyond monstrous in terms of talent.
A sudden sense of urgency gripped her heart.
If old monsters in the God Realm ever discovered our true potential… wouldn't they try to seize our bodies?
Just the thought of it made her shudder.
She clenched her fists and asked, "Then… how difficult is it to reach the Horizon Realm? How does it work?"
Scillia hesitated for a moment before speaking. "It's normally considered bad etiquette to reveal the details of one's cultivation breakthroughs. It's a matter of pride among gods. But…" She smiled. "If it's you, Young Miss, I don't mind sharing my experience."
Ella was surprised.
The system had once mentioned that gods rarely shared their cultivation insights with others. For Scillia to do so willingly… it showed how much trust she was placing in her.
Ella nodded. "Thank you, Scillia."
Scillia's smile widened, a flicker of joy appearing in her eyes. She was making progress—getting closer to Ella, even if just a little.
"Let's start with the difference between the Inferno Realm and the Horizon Realm," she began.
She patiently explained the fundamentals, helping Ella grasp the differences in strength between realms.
"The body of a god possesses ten innate Daos," Scillia continued. "For example, the first realm is about opening the Ascendant Core—awakening one's Primordial Essence. This marks the start of the First Path."
Ella listened intently.
"The second innate Dao is the Dao of Flame," Scillia went on. "Merging it with the Ascendant Core results in the evolution of Destructive Essence. This is how we advance."
Ella's mind raced.
"Then, the Horizon Realm…?"
"If you reach the limit of the Inferno Realm, another Dao—Dao of Space—will naturally awaken in your body. It merges with the Infernal Mantle, evolving it further."
Ella was silent.
She finally understood. Cultivation wasn't just about absorbing power—it was about awakening what was already within them.
But that also meant…
"So, in the end, everything is about talent, right?" she asked, her voice serious.
Scillia smiled knowingly. "Yes… and no."
Ella frowned. "What do you mean?"
Scillia's gaze turned distant. "Not everyone relies on talent. There are those who fight their fate—who shatter their shackles and defy the heavens themselves."
Ella's eyes twitched.
Wtf… You just described a protagonist right there.
