032. Who Will Pity the Fading Beauty (2) [Extra Chapter by Yun Niang]

When A Kang arrived, Chen Chen had already taken excellent care of Tian Rao. Tian Rao looked immaculate, and aside from appearing a bit frail, her condition was quite favorable.

A Kang placed the thermos on the table and then strode over to Tian Rao's bedside. "Does it hurt?" he inquired tenderly, fearful that his booming voice might startle her.

This kind of A Kang made Tian Rao's heart ache with a pang of sourness. "It hardly hurts. Don't fret," she soothed.

"I've brought some congee and side dishes. The doctor said it's better to have something light for now," A Kang informed.

"Okay," Tian Rao attempted to sit up. A Kang quickly restrained her. "Let me adjust the bed. Just lean back," he said. Then he raised the head of the bed, fluffed up the pillow for Tian Rao to recline on, and only then did he pour the congee from the thermos on the table into the pre - prepared bowl.

Tian Rao intended to eat by herself, but the moment she moved her hand, it tugged at the wound, causing a sharp pain. A Kang motioned for her to stay still and fed her spoonful by spoonful.

In truth, A Kang was a master at taking care of others. He had honed this skill on Chen Chen. Chen Chen regarded A Kang with a smile. "The young master is truly a pro at caring for people. I'm at ease now. Tian Rao, rest for a while after you finish eating. The doctor will come for a ward round later. I'll go home to change clothes first and come to see you this afternoon."

"Okay. Haven't you been up all night? Go back and catch up on some sleep. There's no rush."

"I slept in the same bed with you last night," Chen Chen winked. "I just woke up earlier than you. Well, that's that for now."

"Wait a sec. Let's have breakfast together," A Kang called out, holding the bowl in his hand, watching the hasty retreating figure.

"I haven't had breakfast for years. Take good care of Tian Rao. I'm heading back," Chen Chen didn't slow down, and her figure vanished at the door.

A Kang couldn't very well put down the bowl and chase after her. There was still the person who got injured for him lying here. He couldn't abandon everything for love. He gave Tian Rao an awkward smile. "Come on, drink more. It'll help you recover quicker."

"Why don't you go and see Chen Chen off? I'm stuffed," Tian Rao said, looking at A Kang with reluctant eyes but uttering words against her will.

"No need. The girl who came with her was there when I came. Don't worry about it. Your full recovery is the top priority," A Kang said softly. Tian Rao felt elated.

Leng Yan was leaning against the car door. She watched Chen Chen emerge. Chen Chen took a deep breath at the door. "The outside air is so much fresher," she exclaimed. Then she took a couple of steps forward, bent down, and got into the car.

Leng Yan got in after her and shut the car door. The driver started the engine.

"Head back to Feng Wu," Chen Chen slumped against the car seat, her voice sounding exhausted.

"Do you want me to prepare some food?" Leng Yan asked.

"When have you ever seen me have breakfast?" Chen Chen shot Leng Yan a look, as if to say you're so naive.

"You've been in poor health lately and you've pulled an all - nighter. Have something to eat first," Leng Yan said, gazing at Chen Chen with concern.

Seeing Leng Yan's worried expression, Chen Chen couldn't bear to decline. "Now that you mention it, I am really hungry. Prepare some. Call Rui over too."

"Okay," Leng Yan quickly dialed the phone, unable to conceal her glee in her voice.

The car pulled up in front of Feng Wu. Chen Chen took the exclusive elevator to the fifth floor, while Leng Yan went off to attend to other matters.

When she pushed the door open, she spotted a pair of men's shoes on the floor. Why was Chu Rui in her room? Only Chu Rui was permitted to enter her room. It was clearly him without even having to think.

On the chaise longue in front of the window, Chu Rui was half - lying, half - reclining. He was propping his chin with his hand, gazing out of the window. Hearing the sound of the door, he turned his head and saw Chen Chen striding towards him.

Their eyes locked. Chen Chen stood before him. He shifted inwards a bit, and Chen Chen lay down beside him. Chu Rui wrapped his arms around her waist from behind and pressed his face into her long hair. It still carried the lovely violet fragrance. He took a deep whiff and felt a sense of tranquility wash over him.

"Stop sniffing. I haven't taken a bath yet. I'm so filthy. I'm so worn out. I don't even want to move," Chen Chen nuzzled against his body, looking on the verge of falling asleep. She really wasn't cut out for taking care of others.

Holding her soft form and listening to her coquettish words, Chu Rui's heart was suddenly filled with warmth. "You always smell divine, my fragrant baby," Chu Rui murmured, pressing his chin on the top of Chen Chen's head. "How's Tian Rao?"

"She's fine. It's not a serious injury. She'll bounce back after a few days of rest."

"But your health isn't fully restored yet. Should we..."

"No need. Don't worry about me. You know I'm in good shape."

"I'm sorry about that day..."

"Don't say sorry. You're not to blame at all," Chen Chen interrupted Chu Rui. She rolled over so that their faces were mere inches apart. Their warm breaths caressed each other's faces. Chen Chen stared at Chu Rui intently. His eyebrows and eyes were as exquisite as a masterpiece. Over the years, time seemed to have left no mark on his face. He was still as noble and elegant as a radiant star and a luminous moon.

"Do I look good?" Chu Rui asked with a playful grin. "I love it when you look at me like this, with only me in your eyes and in your heart." He tightened his grip on her waist. She shyly buried her head in his arms and didn't want to lift it up again.

The two just lay there in silence. The sunlight outside the window streamed through the glass, casting a warm glow on their bodies.
