A New Reality

Chapter 7

Ana's POV

I stared blankly at my small bag that was stuffed with all the clothes I had. I heard a knock on the door, Marcus had called me earlier to inform me that a driver was going to come pick me to take me to his penthouse.

I was really doing this. I picked up my back and pulled the door open.

" Hello Miss Miller, I'm Burnley and Mr Blinge sent me here to pick you."

" You can call me Ana." I said with a small smile.

" Let me help you with your luggage."

" No that won't be necessary." I said as I passed him and went out.

As we drove to his penthouse, I couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. What have I gotten myself into? When we arrived at the penthouse, Marcus was already waiting at the door. As I walked to him I could see his eyes scanning me but I couldn't tell what he was thinking of. Probably the fact that my luggage looks like I was coming for a one night sleepover.

He pushed the door open revealing the most beautifully furnished pent house I had ever seen. My eyes lit up in awe as I subtly looked around the house. Normally, I would have been happy and jumping around in excitement but when I remember the situation I was trapped in the feeling of happiness turned to anger.

" You don't exactly look pleased with it?" Marcus said with a raised eyebrow.

" I'm pleased." I said with a plastic smile not wanting to get on his bad side. He still had me in a chokehold.

" Make yourself comfortable, you start work tomorrow."

" Work?" My eyebrows furrowed in suprise. " You didn't read the contract?" I looked down at my feet, a habit I do when I'm clearly in the wrong.

" You are going to be my personal assistant, it's a very demanding task so get some rest." He said as he walked towards the door. So I don't only get to deal with him at home, I also have to deal with him at work. This is actually going to be a nightmare.

" Mr Blinge." I called out making him stop on his tracks.

" Has the surgery started?"

" Yes, get some rest." He said before walking out.

The shrill sound of the door bell kept going on and on. I pulled myself lazily from the bed to see who was at the door.

" Burnley?" I pulled the door open.

" Miss Miller, Mr Blinge said I should bring you to the office before eight AM." I gasped as everything from last night came rushing in.

I glanced at the wall clock it was already five minutes past eight. Today was my first day and I was already late. I quickly ran to the bathroom to freshen up. I could already imagine the stoic expression he was going to give me.

I smoothened the creases on my jeans trousers before knocking and pushing the door open.

" Good morning, Mr Blinge." I greeted immediately I got in.

" Miss Miller you're thirty minutes late."

" I'm Sor..."

" This lateness would not be entertained." He interrupted me.

" As my personal assistant you're meant to be here by seven AM with a cup of coffee for me and my schedule for the day on my desk." He sounded so professional and didn't even spare me a glance.

" I'm sorry sir."

" I'm letting you off with a...." His words trailed as he finally took his eyes off his laptop and looked at me. He scanned me from head to toe.

" With a warning and next time dress more appropriate for an office. You're dismissed."

I got to my desk and found a heap of file I was meant to attend to. I started working immediately not wanting to get into anymore trouble. I glanced at the clock few hours later and it was lunchtime.

I made my way to the bathroom, feeling tired and overwhelmed already.

" You must be the new girl." I turned to see a friendly looking woman, slightly older than me.

" Yea, I guess."

" I'm Jolene, I work in the finance department." She said hold out her hand to me.

" I'm Ana" I shook her hand and gave her a small smile in return. " I have to run I guess I'll see you around later then?"

" Yea sure." I got into one of the stalls to do my business.

" Can you believe that Marcus hired that low life?" Someone said as they entered the restroom

" Did you see what she wore? Jeans." She said and they bursted into a fit of laughter. They were definitely talking about me. I held my head high mustering courage before walking out of the toilet stall.

" Did you borrow your outfit from the thrift store?" The girl that looked like the queen bee of the group sneered at me.

" I don't see how that is any of your business." I replied trying to sound as nonchalant as possible.

They all exchanged skeptical look before bursting into a fit of laughter.

" Well you definitely made a fashion statement." She snorted. I decided that it was best to ignore them so I strode past them towards the door.

" She probably slept her way up there, Slut." She said making me halt in a spot.

" What did you just call me?" I had really wished she didn't answer that question but she did make all the pent up anger in me resurface.

" What are you going to do, slut." My hand folded into a fist ready to attack but an image of my mum crossed my mind. I'm doing it just for you mum.

" See you around." I said before sending a plastic smile her way.
